The upcoming Surface laptops from Microsoft have been postponed, and the pricing could be a bit harsh as well.
Microsoft
If you've been waiting for a new Surface device, you may need to be patient a bit longer. Leaker Roland Quandt has reported that Microsoft has delayed the release of its new Surface hardware by approximately a month, and early pricing indicators suggest that this wait may be accompanied by some unpleasant surprises.
What’s on the way?
The Surface Laptop 8 and Surface Pro 12 are still on track, and the overall lineup remains unchanged. Both devices are expected to feature options for Intel or Qualcomm processors, allowing customers to choose between performance and ARM efficiency. The Surface Laptop 8 lineup will reportedly include OLED display configurations, marking a significant improvement over current versions. Additionally, smaller versions of both the Surface Pro and Surface Laptop are in development.
Microsoft
Quandt shared the news of the delay on Bluesky, noting a postponement of nearly a month for Microsoft’s Surface hardware plans. This may impact the Intel-powered Panther Lake models directly, potentially moving their release to July. The Snapdragon X2 variants were already scheduled for a later timeframe, ranging from July to September 2026. No official images of these devices have been revealed yet, so Microsoft is keeping details under wraps for the moment.
Pricing may pose a significant issue
A more alarming aspect of Quandt’s update was a succinct comment on pricing, describing it as “so bad” without providing details. This aligns with information from a Dutch retailer suggesting that the Surface Pro 12 could be considerably more expensive than the current model in certain configurations, potentially increasing by as much as 65%. To provide context, the existing Surface Pro retails for about $999. Such a significant price hike would push the new model into a range that is difficult for most consumers to justify, even with upgraded features.
Microsoft
Microsoft has not issued any official statements yet, and retail listings can often be unreliable prior to a product launch. However, with the delay and concerns about pricing, the launch of the Surface Pro 12 is looking increasingly complex. Hopefully, the final pricing will tell a different story.
