Samsung is already reconsidering the TriFold, and this time, it’s beginning with the hinge.

The TriFold might not have stayed on the market for long, but its follower is currently being designed to endure and fold more compactly.

The initial Galaxy Z TriFold barely had enough time to become popular before Samsung discontinued it. Released on January 30, 2026, it was the first mass-market triple-fold phone available in the U.S., but it was taken off the shelves just three months later.

Nonetheless, Samsung is still committed to the idea, as it is actively working on a sequel, starting with the hinge.

Why is the hinge so significant?

Recent supply chain reports suggest that Samsung is creating a completely new hinge solution for the TriFold 2, aimed at making it significantly slimmer. According to the Korean blog Naver, the company is concentrating on a "lightweight and ultra-slim design."

The new hinge for the TriFold 2 is said to be close to completing most of its verification process. Currently, the device is projected for a mid-2027 release, if all goes well. For those interested in foldable devices, this may seem like a long wait, but a more slender triple-foldable could certainly be worthwhile.

In a triple-folding phone, the hinge goes beyond being just a hinge; it's the core component that influences the overall experience. If it isn’t executed properly, the result is a bulky, delicate device that no one wants to carry.

Why do other Samsung foldables benefit as well?

The original Galaxy Z TriFold measures 3.9-4.2 mm when flat and 12.9 mm when folded, which is quite commendable for a device with three panels.

This becomes even more intriguing for everyone, not just the TriFold fans. An enhanced yet simplified version of the new hinge from the original TriFold, with some technical enhancements, may also appear in the Fold 8 and Flip 8.

In essence, the engineering efforts behind a high-end foldable device could extend to Samsung's standard foldable lineup.

The iPhone 18 Pro leak reveals an appealing new color option reminiscent of the Kindle.

Apple’s new Dark Cherry hue embodies understated luxury.

Typically, Apple leaks revolve around camera features or performance specs, but this time, the color is taking center stage. It seems to evoke a similar vibe to the Kindle. If the latest rumors hold true, the iPhone 18 Pro may finally move away from flashy colors in favor of something far more elegant and familiar.

The new "Dark Cherry" color of the iPhone 18 Pro is the focal point.

A new iPhone app called Gigs aims to revolutionize how music enthusiasts remember live shows by transforming disorganized concert memories into an organized, searchable archive. Created by indie developer Hidde van der Ploeg, the app employs artificial intelligence to categorize past concert experiences into a custom digital timeline.

The concept is straightforward: instead of letting ticket stubs, screenshots, and photos collect dust across various devices, Gigs consolidates them into one location, complete with details, statistics, and memories associated with each event.

Google’s new desktop mode clearly indicates that Samsung DeX had the right idea.

Android 16 finally introduces a genuine desktop mode for Pixel phones, but Google's long-anticipated update highlights how Samsung has spent years perfecting the essential components.

I have been eagerly awaiting Android to seriously embrace desktop mode for years. Back in 2019, I purchased a OnePlus 7 Pro and wasted a considerable amount of time trying to force its incomplete desktop mode into something functional.

The concept made perfect sense to me even then. Phones were already incredibly powerful, and the idea of having a real computer in my pocket felt less like science fiction and more like a long-overdue realization.

Only a few months after removing the original TriFold from stores, Samsung is revamping it from the hinge onward, with supply chain sources indicating a thinner and lighter triple-fold device.
