I always have my iPhone 17 Pro with me. It's not solely because I’m fond of it; rather, Apple has immersed me in its ecosystem, and I experiment with numerous apps (via TestFlight) and beta OS builds regularly. While it’s a fantastic device, my habits inevitably lead to excessive battery drain.
Moreover, I enjoy working outdoors—whether in cafes, parks, or any location outside my office. Carting around a charging kit is the last thing I want, and my jeans have no love for a large power bank either. All this puts my iPhone’s ability to last a full day at risk. Perhaps a compact, handy, and adaptable solution could be the answer?
There are indeed products that fit the bill, leading me to Baseus and their PicoGo AM31 Mini Magnetic Power Bank with Stand 20W 5000mAh. Don’t let the lengthy name deter you; I’ll refer to it simply as the Baseus PicoGo AM31, which is appropriately compact and fulfills its purpose—albeit with some warmth.
Baseus PicoGo AM31 build: Its tiny size is impressive
Quick take: The impressively small dimensions and minimal weight are coupled with sturdy construction and useful features.
One of the primary—if not the defining—reasons to choose the Baseus PicoGo AM31 is its size and weight. Weighing just over 140 grams, its compact form lets you tuck it into almost any pocket of your clothing or carry bag. As seen in the image below, this mini power bank can even fit into the small pocket of my jeans.
If you prefer not to carry a bag filled with gadgets and cables and rely on your laptop (and phone) to last the entire duration of your outdoor work sessions without an outlet nearby, the Baseus PicoGo AM31 serves as an ideal companion.
You can shake your iPhone without the case detaching.
Another notable feature is the built-in magnet. It’s quite powerful, and throughout my usage, the power bank never detached from my iPhone 17 Pro or Google Pixel 10 Pro—both equipped with magnetic rings beneath the glass surface. The same holds true even with a case on.
I tested Apple’s TechWoven Case for the iPhone 17 Pro and the Spigen Ultra Hybrid Neo One (Mag Fit) for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Again, the magnetic connection remains strong, ensuring that the Baseus power bank will not drop off the phone's cover. You can hold the power bank in a vertical position, allowing the phone to hang from it.
However, there are a couple of small issues behind this convenience. First, not all phones pair well with the power bank. Devices featuring a large or tall camera housing near the charging coil may experience problems. The Pixel 10 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro fit perfectly. The Galaxy S26 Ultra? Not as much, as depicted in the image below.
Secondly, the position of the USB-C port is a bit inconvenient.
