This update introduces an “AI Enhance” button aimed at simplifying photo editing. Instead of adjusting multiple sliders, this feature automatically modifies lighting and contrast with just a single tap, minimizing manual adjustments while enhancing image quality.
Additionally, the app now incorporates video speed options, allowing users to manage playback speed directly within Google Photos. This advancement transforms the app from just a storage solution to a more versatile tool for viewing and editing.
Availability might differ depending on the device and region, meaning that not all users will access both features simultaneously.

The AI Enhance feature acts as a quick-edit shortcut. Instead of navigating through several controls, it automatically makes lighting and contrast adjustments within the editor, shifting the focus from manual accuracy to delivering consistent outcomes.

Video controls catch up
For videos, a long-awaited feature has now been included. Each clip contains a menu with playback speed options, ranging from 0.25x to 2x.
This addition brings Google Photos closer to specialized video applications, where speed adjustments are common. It also enhances the flexibility of reviewing clips, whether that involves slowing down or quickly navigating through longer recordings.
The initial rollout suggests a staggered implementation rather than a full global launch immediately.
Rollout timing and expectations
The two features are being released at different rates. AI Enhance is intended for broad distribution across Android, while video playback features are still in earlier stages with limited availability as of now.
This phased approach means that some devices will receive the photo update first, followed by the video controls as the rollout grows. Variations between devices may also influence when features become available and their performance.
