The Nvidia DLSS 4.5 update featuring 6x frame generation is now available for RTX graphics cards today.

      Nvidia has officially launched its DLSS 4.5 update today, following the contentious introduction of DLSS 5. The update is available via a new beta release of the Nvidia app. Users can now utilize the complete DLSS 4.5 feature set, which includes the newly introduced Dynamic Multi Frame Generation system and a 6x Multi Frame Generation mode.

      To access all features, Nvidia states that users need the GeForce Game Ready Driver 595.79 WHQL or a more recent version.

      What’s new in DLSS 4.5?

      The standout feature of the update is the 6x Multi Frame Generation technology. Nvidia explains that this Frame Generation capability, which began at 2x and reached 4x with DLSS 4, has now been enhanced to 6x. With DLSS 4.5, users can generate five extra frames for every frame that is natively rendered, specifically on the GeForce RTX 50 series GPUs.

      Dynamic option available

      However, the upgrade isn’t solely focused on generating more frames indiscriminately. Nvidia asserts that Dynamic Multi Frame Generation can automatically adjust between different frame generation multipliers to achieve an optimal balance among frame rate, image quality, and overall responsiveness. The company likens this feature to an automatic transmission for GPUs, allowing adjustments based on the game and display instead of confining users to a single multiplier.

      For those who prefer more control, the Nvidia app provides the option to select between these two modes.

      Alongside this update, Nvidia is leveraging its second-generation transformer AI model for DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution. This innovation enhances picture quality when utilizing DLSS by minimizing ghosting and improving temporal stability. The overall smoothness of gaming is ineffective if the visuals appear blurry or indistinct.

      It's important to note that while older RTX 50 series cards can take advantage of Multi Frame Generation, the RTX 40 series is limited to the standard Frame Generation technology. Unfortunately, those using previous generation RTX graphics cards will not benefit from these new features.
