Samsung's new Tab S11 Ultra Pro Keyboard is approaching a price similar to that of the MacBook Neo.
Samsung has launched its Pro Keyboard for the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra in the US and Europe, following its initial release in Korea earlier this month.
This new accessory aims to transform the flagship tablet into a device resembling a laptop, featuring a large trackpad and a sturdier hinge design. While this sounds appealing, the price is a significant drawback. In the US, Samsung is asking for $399.99, and in Europe, the cost is €389.90 for the Pro Keyboard, which is quite steep for what is effectively a keyboard case.
For just $100 more, you could purchase the entry-level MacBook Neo with a student discount.
Premium materials, heavy weight, and a high price tag
To justify the high price, the company emphasizes the quality of the materials and the finish. Unlike most other keyboard cases, Samsung’s Pro Keyboard is constructed with a substantial aluminum casing, and the hinge is crafted to keep the tablet stable, allowing touchscreen use without instability. It connects via metal pins on the back of the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra, eliminating the need for separate charging or Bluetooth pairing.
The tablet and keyboard can fold together like a laptop, making this accessory Samsung’s most serious effort yet to position the Tab S11 Ultra as a true laptop alternative. When paired with Samsung DeX, this premium accessory becomes more justifiable. Additionally, the keyboard deck features a dedicated AI key and three customizable function keys for launching user-selected apps.
The weight is also a concern
However, the weight is another consideration. The Pro Keyboard itself weighs 1.4lbs (approximately 0.64kg), so when combined with the tablet, the total weight is 2.93lbs (1.33kg), comparable to many 14-inch laptops. This added weight can make the accessory feel a bit cumbersome. While the Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra with the Keyboard Pro becomes more laptop-like, it also carries some of the typical downsides, such as its weight, without actually functioning as a full laptop.
