Finnish neurowellness startup Audicin secures $1.9 million in funding.
The company Audicin, founded entirely by women and supported by the co-founders of Oura Health and Business Finland, employs brainwave entrainment to enhance focus, sleep, and recovery through background audio. Its latest product, the Sleep Headband, is designed for secure locations where mobile phones are prohibited.
Audicin, a Finnish neurotechnology firm that utilizes brainwave entrainment and auditory engineering to aid in nervous system regulation, has secured $1.9 million in funding. This funding round includes private investments, follow-on support from Oura Health co-founders Petteri Lahtela and Virpi Tuomivaara, as well as a grant from Business Finland through its Deep Tech Accelerator program. With this latest capital infusion, Audicin's total funding now stands at around $3 million. The company, established in 2022, consists of an all-female leadership team, including CEO Laura Avonius, Victoria Williamson, and Mariana Sousa Aguiar.
Audicin’s innovative technology operates through passive background listening instead of active mindfulness techniques. It plays audio sessions tailored to a user's physiological signals in the background during activities like work, commuting, or relaxation, effectively guiding the nervous system towards states conducive to focus, stress recovery, or sleep without requiring focused attention.
This method is based on brainwave entrainment, the neuroscience of music, and auditory engineering. The Audicin for Apps SDK enables third-party digital health, performance, and consumer platforms to seamlessly integrate the technology, triggered by biometric data, the time of day, or in-app activities, and supports compatibility with wearables such as Oura, Apple Watch, Garmin, and Whoop without needing extra hardware.
The company is also working on a new product aimed at a more restricted market: a standalone, offline Sleep Headband tailored for areas where mobile devices are prohibited, like healthcare and defense environments. This device provides pre-configured recovery programs based on low-frequency brainwave protocols without the need for a connected phone. Audicin reports seeing initial commercial success across defense, performance, and wellness sectors, and the funding will aid in commercializing its mobile app, Sleep Headband, and the SDK alongside ongoing product development.
