This process involves enabling developer mode, inspecting security warnings manually, rebooting your phone to eliminate any potentially harmful remote access, and then enduring a mandatory 24-hour cooldown before you can continue. The purpose of this is to slow you down just enough to identify a scam before it takes hold. Once you’ve completed this process, you won’t need to repeat it every time. It’s Google’s way of encouraging you to sideload cautiously.

Once you complete the “advanced flow” on your current Android device, those permissions can be transferred during the setup of your next phone. Thus, you handle the heavy lifting once, and your future device will remember it, making the process considerably less bothersome than it initially appears.

      He also clarified several important details for those who engage in sideloading. Firstly, installations via Android Debug Bridge (ADB) are exempt from the 24-hour waiting period. There is no quick command to bypass the timer; thus, if you try to install something within that timeframe, ADB becomes your sole option. This approach is aimed at maintaining tight control over the main process.

      There is a caveat regarding updates. If you install apps from unverified sources, you'll need to keep the advanced flow active for future updates. Even if you opt for a temporary seven-day bypass, that authorization will expire, and you’ll have to undergo the process again to ensure those apps remain updated. As Forsythe points out, this system is clearly intended for testing or short-term use, not for establishing a permanent collection of sideloaded apps.

      The positive aspect is that developer mode does not need to remain enabled indefinitely. You only require it for the initial setup. Once that’s completed, you can deactivate it and use your phone normally. This is quite relieving, especially since some banking and security-sensitive applications may malfunction when developer mode is on. In summary, Google is adding necessary friction while ensuring your everyday experience isn’t negatively affected.
