Over the years, smartphones have become increasingly challenging to repair. Modern devices are often sealed tightly and resist repairs when internal components malfunction.
This is what makes the Samsung Galaxy A57 a refreshing change.
A recent teardown analysis of this new mid-range model indicates that Samsung has created one of its most repair-friendly phones in years, achieving an impressive repairability score of 9 out of 10.
What sets this model apart?
With the launch of the Galaxy A57, Samsung introduced several minor updates for its annual iteration. However, the standout enhancement appears to be its repairability.
In a teardown video from PBKReviews, a significant modification to the battery is highlighted. The Galaxy A57 features a 5,000mAh battery that is now secured with pull-tab adhesives, allowing for much simpler removal. This means there’s no need for excessive prying, which also reduces the risk of damaging the battery. Although it’s a small adjustment, it makes a considerable difference as the battery experiences degradation over time.
Additionally, Samsung has thoughtfully redesigned the phone’s internal layout. Once the back cover is removed, the components are held together with standard Philips screws, facilitating disassembly without the need for specialized tools.
The internal arrangement has been enhanced for better accessibility, the vapor chamber for cooling has been enlarged, and the components are designed to minimize accidental damage during routine repairs.

While not flawless, it's a significant step forward.
This doesn’t imply that the phone is entirely user-repairable. The video notes that users will still need to apply heat to detach the back panel and require basic tools for more in-depth repairs. However, compared to many flagship models, the Galaxy A57 is relatively easier to work with, as it is not encumbered with excessive glue and layers. This accessibility makes it feel more user-friendly.
Why this is important.
Repairability isn't just a concern for enthusiasts or repair professionals; it directly influences how long you retain your phone. It also affects repair costs, potentially determining whether a damaged phone gets repaired or replaced. With the rising prices of smartphones in today’s market, these aspects have become increasingly significant.
