Initially introduced in the US, Search Live is part of Google’s larger effort to make search more conversational, interactive, and crucially, hands-free.
So, what is Google Search Live?
Consider it as Google Search… but through voice interaction. Search Live allows users to ask questions vocally or use their phone’s camera on both Android and iOS via the Google App, receiving spoken replies along with relevant web links.

For instance, you can point your camera at an object like a damaged shelf and inquire how to repair it. The AI will assess the situation and provide an answer in real time, making it akin to having a conversation rather than just conducting a search. This feature is powered by Google’s Gemini 3.1 Flash model, crafted for quicker, more natural, and multilingual interactions.
So… is the traditional search bar outdated?
This represents a significant transformation. Google is not merely enhancing search; it's gradually shifting away from the predominant “type and scroll” method. With Search Live, users can converse, pose follow-up questions, and engage naturally, enhancing the experience from a query to a dialogue. It essentially brings a ChatGPT-like interaction directly into Google Search.

Additionally, it integrates voice, visuals, and contextual understanding to create a multimodal experience. You can engage through the Google app or activate it via Lens, providing a seamless experience. Looking forward, this redefines what “search” entails. It is evolving into an assistant that comprehends and reacts in real time. With its global rollout, this marks a shift from experimentation to a new standard.

I seamlessly transferred all my conversations from other AI applications to Gemini — and it worked perfectly.
You know that moment when AI assistants, like ChatGPT, Gemini, or Claude, suddenly derail mid-conversation and start diverging from reality as if they are completely certain they’re right? It can be both amusing and frustrating. I typically end up swapping between apps, hoping one will provide a correct response. But the main issue is starting anew each time. It's as if I’m stuck explaining my background to various AIs, one after the other.
Now with Gemini, I can transition from other AI apps without needing to reset the conversation. Finally, there’s relief from the Google gods. I attempted it expecting the usual issues, but it was unexpectedly smooth and quick.

Your VR headset is about to enable you to smell the virtual world.
Your sense of smell is due for a VR upgrade, and it's exhilarating.
Virtual Reality has advanced significantly and can now provide sharp visuals coupled with surround sound audio. However, it has yet to master the aspect of smell. The absence of smell diminishes the overall immersive experience.
This might be changing soon, as a research team from the Institute of Science Tokyo, in collaboration with Rakuten Mobile, has created a wearable device that can incorporate smells into the VR environment. It can blend up to eight different scents in real time, delivering them in sync with your virtual setting.
