Renders of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 suggest that Samsung is addressing a significant flaw from the Fold 7.
It was just another uneventful Tuesday in the news cycle when Android Headlines released CAD renders of Samsung’s forthcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8. While the foldable device isn’t undergoing a significant redesign, the updates happening internally are somewhat exciting.
After aiming high with the Fold 7 last year, which became their thinnest foldable to date, Samsung is keeping the design mostly the same. You will still see the familiar sharp corners, flat sides, and the same display configuration — an 8-inch inner display and a 6.5-inch cover display.

Will the S Pen make a reappearance with the Fold 8?
The camera bump remains unchanged as well, housing three sensors, and the under-display camera is still not in the cards. So, what improvements can we expect? For starters, the Fold 8 may measure 158.4 x 143.2 x 4.5 mm (5.5 mm with the camera bump) when unfolded, and 158.4 x 72.8 x 9 mm when folded, and there may be a good reason for this slight increase in size.
While it’s not immediately evident from the renders, the publication suggests that the thicker profile could indicate the return of the S Pen. Samsung had discreetly removed S Pen support from the Fold 7 to maintain its slimness, and although that strategy initially worked, Samsung fans later expressed disappointment.
Consequently, Samsung might reinstate the digitizer layer that facilitates S Pen input, and the minor increase in thickness could be a significant indicator of this change.

Are there any other noteworthy upgrades in the Fold 8?
In addition to the S Pen, the Fold 8 could also feature a substantial camera enhancement. While the 200MP main camera might remain intact, the 12MP ultrawide camera is anticipated to be replaced by a 50MP sensor, which would improve details in landscape or group photos.
Internally, the Fold 8 is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy chip, a slightly overclocked variant of the chip found in the OnePlus 15. To enhance battery life between charges, Samsung may equip it with a 5,000 mAh battery with 45W wired charging support.
If this occurs, it would mark the first battery capacity enhancement since the Fold 3.

Pricing is predicted to remain at $1,999, which should be a relief following last year’s $200 increase. However, considering the $100 uptick for the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26 Plus, I remain cautious about the pricing of the Fold 8 for now.
As usual, the Fold 8 is expected to be unveiled at the mid-year Galaxy Unpacked event, typically taking place in July. Alongside the phone, Samsung might also introduce the Flip 8 and the anticipated wide-screen foldable. This would give it an early advantage over Apple’s proposed iPhone Fold, which is rumored to launch in December 2026.
