Claude can now manage tasks on your PC independently without the need for a complicated OpenClaw configuration.
OpenClaw caused a sensation when it was launched, proving the viability of a genuine personal assistant that can perform complex tasks on a computer.
However, OpenClaw may not be suitable for everyone due to its challenging setup and various safety issues, making it primarily suited for technically skilled users. A more consumer-friendly alternative is Claude Cowork, recently introduced by Anthropic.
Like OpenClaw, it can manage tasks on your computer without a complicated installation process and offers a secure experience. This feature is currently available as a research preview for Claude Pro and Max subscribers on macOS and Windows systems.
How does it function?
Claude Cowork is capable of opening files, browsing the internet, navigating through applications, and using developer tools—all without any intricate setup. Once you grant it access to your files and issue a command, it gets to work.

Claude intelligently prefers the best available tool first. If there's an integration for services like Gmail, Google Drive, or Slack, it utilizes that. If no integration is available, Claude takes over, operating your browser, mouse, and keyboard to accomplish the task. It always seeks permission before accessing a new application or file, allowing you to halt it whenever you wish.

For instance, I can instruct Claude Cowork to resize all images in a specific folder, rename files, or search the internet for a list of top ice cream shops in my area, and it will complete these tasks independently without requiring any further input from me.
Can you control it via your phone?
Absolutely, and this is where things become particularly exciting. Claude Dispatch, a new app from Anthropic, enables you to send commands to the Claude desktop application from your mobile device.
You can delegate a task while at work, and upon returning home, find it finished. Cowork also includes memory, allowing it to keep context between sessions and learn your working style over time.
For developers, Claude Channels adds more functionality. You can directly send events like chat messages or monitoring alerts into your Claude Code session from platforms like Telegram or Discord.

You can also schedule tasks. Instruct Claude to summarize your emails every morning, compile a weekly report, or track industry news regularly. Claude manages these tasks automatically and notifies you when they are completed.
What does this imply for you?
Claude Cowork bridges the present and future, moving us toward a time when digital personal assistants can complete our tasks autonomously. While there are valid concerns regarding AI, this represents a promising and beneficial direction.
