Capturing 8K drone footage has become simpler with Potensic's latest upgrade.

Drone cameras enable amateur filmmakers, travelers, and adventurers to capture cinematic footage with just a button press, and the well-known drone manufacturer Potensic has made this even easier with a new announcement at CES 2026.

The Potensic Atom 2, launched in early 2025, has established itself as a favored lightweight consumer drone, notable for its capability to record 8K or 4K HDR video while weighing under 250g. This weight is significant, as it categorizes the Atom 2 as a mini-drone; such drones have less stringent flying regulations and are considerably simpler for novices to learn drone flying.

Equipped with numerous AI-powered features such as tracking and automated camera movements, a commendable flight duration of 32 minutes, and the capacity to capture video from up to 10 kilometers away, the Atom 2 remains a preferred choice among drone operators. However, a recent announcement has made this drone even more user-friendly in challenging environments.

      Introducing the PTD-1

This announcement introduces the PTD-1, a remote controller for the drone featuring a built-in screen, eliminating the need to rely on your smartphone to operate the Atom 2.

Frequent drone users are aware of the drawbacks of utilizing a smartphone to control a drone. You risk interruptions from calls and messages, face a lengthy setup process, and most critically, you may drain your phone's battery.

If you're in a remote location or depend on your device for safety, this alone could hinder your ability to capture that perfect shot. Additionally, you cannot use your phone to access reference images, storyboards, or note-taking applications while flying.

This is not an issue with the Atom 2’s PTD-1, which takes the place of your phone for controlling the drone. It preserves the 10km transmission range with a low latency of 120ms for its built-in 1080p screen.

With its 6,400mAh battery, it can operate for three hours, far exceeding the time needed for flying, and with 27W fast charging, it can recharge to 90% in just 1 hour and 25 minutes. The controller offers 32GB of internal storage, expandable for extended drone flights.

In addition to these features, Potensic has included some extras that enhance the flying experience. These features allow users to take off with just one hand, unlike many competitors that require two, improving control over the drone.

The PTD-1 is currently available for purchase on Potensic’s website alongside the Atom 2, priced at $479.99 as part of the standard drone kit or $599.99 in the Fly More Combo, which includes a carry bag, spare batteries, a charging hub, and additional spare propellers.

However, for a limited time, the brand is offering the devices for $419.99 and $519.99, respectively, allowing you to experience the controller at a lower price point. Bundles featuring the original phone-dependent controller are still available and are also enjoying their respective discounts.
