Motorola's upcoming ultra-slim smartphone renders the iPhone Air's rear camera outdated.
Motorola has hinted at a major camera enhancement for its upcoming ultra-slim smartphone. The Moto X70 Air Pro may come equipped with a triple rear-camera system.
Following the launch of the X70 Air in October 2025 (a budget-friendly ultra-thin smartphone), Motorola, now owned by Lenovo, is preparing to introduce its successor, the X70 Air Pro, in the Chinese market shortly (as announced in an official Weibo post).
The company has teased the device, suggesting that Motorola’s next ultra-slim smartphone could feature an impressive camera update that might render the iPhone Air outdated.
The Moto X70 Air Pro teaser indicates that the phone could include a triple rear camera setup, surpassing the standard model as well as the $999 iPhone Air. In essence, Motorola’s forthcoming sleek device will provide a hardware advantage so significant that it leaves minimal room for comparison with Apple’s flagship, which has a single rear camera.
For reference, the Moto X70 Air comes with a dual rear-facing camera arrangement that consists of two 50MP sensors (one for primary/wide shots with OIS and the other for ultrawide with PDAF). While the specific details of the third camera remain undisclosed, it is expected to incorporate a dedicated periscope zoom lens.
Although the exact camera configurations have yet to be revealed, it is likely that the third camera will have a resolution slightly lower than the existing sensors (potentially around 12MP or 10MP). Nonetheless, the X70 Air Pro will be the first ultra-thin smartphone to sport a triple-camera setup, placing it in a unique category with little competition.
The teaser also references “AI,” implying that the device may be loaded with various AI-driven features.
The eagerly awaited successor to the X70 Air does not have an official launch date yet, but it may be introduced in January 2026. It will be marketed as the X70 Air Pro in China, while it is expected to be sold globally as the “Edge 70 Pro” (since the X70 Air was released as Edge 70 in markets such as Europe and India).
If you’ve been hesitant to dive into the ultra-slim smartphone market due to limited camera capabilities, the X70 Air Pro or Edge 70 Pro could address that concern (assuming Moto releases the device in the United States, which is anticipated).

The messaging platform is rolling out an update just in time for New Year’s Eve, filled with fresh features to add a festive flair to your messages and calls. The update includes a new sticker pack, exciting video call effects, animated reactions, and more, making it easier to share New Year’s joy.
In a recent blog post, WhatsApp announced that it has released a new sticker pack for 2026 and added video call effects that allow users to incorporate animations like fireworks, confetti, and stars during their calls. The platform is also bringing back special reactions, so users will see a confetti animation when reacting to messages with the confetti emoji.
The year 2026 presents some bold and concerning prospects for the smartphone market.
After a wholesome 2025, which delivered high-quality devices such as the liquid-cooled Red Magic 11 Pro, the iPhone 17 was a pleasant surprise, and the iPhone 17 Pro marked Apple's return to its innovative roots.
Other notable devices included the Vivo X300, which redefined compact smartphones, and Samsung's Galaxy Z TriFold, which embraced the hybrid phone-tablet concept. Google also reached its potential with the impressive Pixel 10 series.
Many iPhone 17 Pro users are reporting a peculiar static noise while charging.
A number of iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max users have noted a faint hissing or static-like sound emitting from the phone's speakers during charging, the cause of which is still uncertain.
As reported by MacRumors and confirmed by conversations on Reddit, Apple's Community Support, and other forums, affected users notice the hissing noise while their devices are charging (whether by wired or MagSafe methods) and the screen is active. Disconnecting the iPhone ceases the sound.
