Let Alexa+ manage deliveries, guests, and other visitors while you're occupied or not at home.
Amazon is expanding its AI assistant, Alexa+, to include your Ring doorbell following its recent web launch. The company has introduced a new feature that enables Alexa to respond at the door and engage in brief conversations with visitors, even in your absence.
Named Alexa+ Greetings, this feature allows Ring doorbells to interact with individuals at your door through conversational AI. According to Amazon, when someone presses the doorbell, Alexa can utilize the doorbell’s camera and audio feed to understand the situation and respond appropriately. For instance, it can instruct a delivery person to leave a package in a designated area, inform a salesperson that you are unavailable, or greet a known visitor and take a message.
Amazon explains that this system integrates Ring’s existing video summaries with Alexa’s enhanced generative AI capabilities. It is quite adaptable, allowing users to configure personalized interactions via the Ring app to instruct Alexa on how to react in various scenarios. The conversations are recorded and saved alongside the video footage, enabling users to review the interaction later.
Alexa can respond to visitors on your behalf.
Alexa+ Greetings effectively transforms Ring doorbells into intelligent assistants that can identify who is at your door, comprehend their needs, and engage in conversation. Instead of constantly checking alerts or live views from the doorbell, Alexa can manage basic interactions for you, which can be beneficial if you are away or busy.
This feature demonstrates Amazon's strategy of positioning Alexa+ as a more multifunctional assistant that goes beyond just smart speakers and displays. For users of Ring who are already integrated into Amazon’s ecosystem, it offers an additional level of automation for the entrance of their home.
If you’re eager to try out Alexa+ Greetings, there might be a delay. Amazon indicates that the feature is presently available only to Alexa+ Early Access users in the US and Canada. It is compatible with select wired Ring doorbell models, requires a Ring subscription, and supports only the English language.
