Pebble's latest smart ring is designed to help you capture thoughts rather than track fitness metrics.
The Index 01 seeks to change the perception of what a smart ring can do.
Pebble's comeback narrative has taken an unforeseen turn. Following the release of two new smartwatches earlier this year, the company has now introduced a new wearable that redefines the concept of a smart ring. Unlike Samsung's Galaxy Ring or Oura's smart rings, the Pebble Index 01 is not designed for health and fitness monitoring; its primary function is to assist users in capturing ideas or remembering important information.
Essentially, the Index 01 is a device meant to facilitate effortless voice note-taking. It is made of stainless steel and features a side button along with a built-in microphone, allowing users to quickly record thoughts, set reminders, initiate a timer, or schedule calendar events. It includes onboard memory for saving recordings, which automatically sync with Pebble’s companion app when connected to a smartphone.
We have just launched a new product – @Pebble Index 01. It’s a compact ring equipped with a button and a mic. Press the button, speak, and it saves your thoughts. I find myself using it throughout the day to note down reminders, tasks, book recommendations, etc., even while my hands are busy. Priced at just $75 – preorders are now open… pic.twitter.com/2mvlKsGX49— Eric Migicovsky (@ericmigi) December 9, 2025
Within the app, recordings are transcribed locally and categorized automatically as reminders, timers, or simple notes. This functionality does not require a monthly subscription, although Pebble does offer an optional cloud service for online backups and enhanced speech-to-text precision.
According to Pebble, the ring's button can also be customized in the companion app to perform additional actions, such as controlling music playback, taking photos, or executing smart home commands, providing users with further options if desired. A double-press and hold gesture can retrieve answers to basic queries, but this feature requires an internet connection and is not enabled by default.
The Index 01 is designed to require minimal upkeep. It does not come with a rechargeable battery; instead, it uses a long-lasting silver oxide battery (similar to those found in hearing aids), which can last up to two years under normal usage. When the battery depletes, users can return the ring to Pebble for recycling, although they will need to purchase a new one.
While buying a new smart ring every two years may seem expensive, the introductory price of $75 for the Index 01 keeps it affordable. If this new take on a smart ring interests you, it is now available for pre-order on Pebble’s website in polished silver, gold, or matte black. Shipments are anticipated to begin in March next year, after which the price will rise to $99.
