According to Reuters, Netflix's proposed acquisition of Warner Bros Discovery's studios and streaming division may positively impact subscribers of these two significant streaming services.
Citing “two individuals familiar with the proposal,” the deal may lead to Netflix and HBO Max being offered as a combined package at a lower total cost than subscribing to each service separately.
The sources further mentioned that “the vast majority of Netflix users also subscribe to HBO Max,” making any potential price reduction a significant advantage for viewers.
What are the current prices for Netflix and HBO Max?
Currently, Netflix's ad-supported plan is priced at $7.99 per month, while the ad-free standard plan costs $17.99 per month. For those seeking Ultra HD resolution and the capability to stream on four devices simultaneously, the premium plan is available for $24.99 per month.
On the other hand, HBO Max charges $10.99 per month for the ad-supported version and $18.49 per month for the ad-free standard plan, with the premium plan costing $22.99 per month.
If you opted for the ad-free standard plans for both services, your monthly expenses would total $36.48. However, subscribing to the premium options for both HBO Max and Netflix would increase that total to $47.98.
There is no certainty this deal will be realized, as Netflix's proposal is competing with other bidders, including Paramount Skydance and Comcast. Thus, it would need to succeed before any bundle discounts become available.
