Flowblade 2.22, a video editor for Linux, has been released.
A new version of the Flowblade 2.22 multitrack video editor has been released, a tool for non—linear editing focused on precise work with clips, images and audio files.
The program remains one of the most mature and functional open source editors in its class, offering a wide range of tools for precise editing, filtering, compositing, and timeline management.
Flowblade continues to evolve in Python, using GTK as the interface base, the MLT framework for video editing, and FFmpeg for working with multimedia formats. The project's license is GPLv3. Installation is possible via Flatpak.
One of the key changes was the redesigned keyframe mechanism: 32 new types of interpolation are now available, grouped by category, including "advanced transition smoothing" and "effects". This significantly expands the possibilities of animation control and allows you to fine-tune the behavior of filters.Image: jliljebl.github.io/flowblade
The interface for editing the parameters of some filters, such as "Alpha shape", "Cropping" and "Gradient fill", has also been updated. Instead of standard sliders, specialized image editors are now used, which increases the accuracy and convenience of working with the geometry of objects.
From other changes:
Timecode moved to the preview area;
Information about the clip is now displayed on the left side of the upper panel.;
Added the ability to attach text labels to tracks.;
Synchronous allocation of several tracks is implemented;
Removed the start screen saver, incompatible with Wayland and GTK4;
Added editing of the "Distortion" parameter in a number of filters;
The interface is still being adapted to GTK4, and the transition is expected next year.
Flowblade retains the status of one of the most functional video editors for the Linux environment. Despite its comparative niche, the project is developing at a steady pace, while remaining open and focused on professional use.
Given the GTK4 adaptation that has begun, we can expect a more modern interface, improved compatibility with Wayland, and possible functionality expansion through improved integration with Python libraries and plugins in the future.
