      In a move similar to The New York Times, Merriam-Webster has introduced a new daily puzzle game named Revealed. This free online game challenges players to deduce a topic based on a description that includes several redacted words.

      Given that Merriam-Webster is the publisher of the world's most renowned dictionary, it's only natural for it to create its own word game. Although it arrives years after the popularity of Wordle, the game that sparked a multitude of daily puzzle variations, Revealed stands out as a clever game that deserves attention.

      Here's how it functions: each day, players receive a page featuring a category, such as Arts & Culture, at the top. Below this, there is an encyclopedia entry with multiple blacked-out words. Players must use contextual clues to figure out what the description refers to. This can be challenging at first glance, which is where hints become useful. Every day, players can use up to seven reveals, each revealing a redacted word. Additionally, hints can uncover a letter from the topic. The objective is to guess the topic with the fewest hints possible.

      To illustrate this without giving away a real answer, consider an example where one day's solution is Super Mario Bros. You might encounter a page starting with "Blank is a blank blank released in blank." You won't be able to reveal the first blank, but if you decide to reveal the second, you would get the word video, hinting that the second blank could be game. Rather than confirming that with another reveal, you could opt to uncover the next one to discover the year. You would continue this process until you feel ready to make an educated guess.

      At the conclusion, players can see their final statistics and compare their performance with others. Lifetime stats, including completion rate and streaks, are also tracked.
