Pass the time during the year-long wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 with this unpredictable new game.

Let's be honest: it’s going to be another year before you can dive into Grand Theft Auto 6. I get it — you were likely hoping to wake up this week and find out that the delay to May 26, 2026 was just a fleeting thought. Unfortunately, that's just how it goes, my friend. In the meantime, you'll have to find other games to enjoy, whether it's Mafia: The Old Country or other car-related titles like Mario Kart World (at least that's how I intend to play it).

But don’t fret; I'm not just here to bring you down. I aim to be constructive, so I come with a recommendation to help lighten your mood, if only temporarily. Deliver at All Costs is a brilliantly chaotic new game inspired by the early Grand Theft Auto titles, back when the series had a top-down view. It’s a compact dose of open-world chaos that any GTA fan is sure to enjoy.

Published by Konami, Deliver at All Costs centers around a delivery driver named Winston who starts a new job in the tranquil town of St. Monique circa 1959. His task is straightforward: deliver packages around town using his old pickup truck. How challenging could that be?

To answer that question, Deliver at All Costs kicks off with a hilarious moment. Right at the beginning of the game, I step out of my apartment and into my car. Without thinking, I hit the right trigger to accelerate. Instead of moving forward, my vehicle zooms backward and crashes through a storefront, which promptly shatters into countless pieces. It’s a perfect way to start. It not only indicates that every part of the city can be destroyed, but also that I should expect a hilarious series of blunders.

Over the course of its diverse missions, the game delivers on this comedic promise, creatively playing with physics. In one task, I have to transport a live marlin across town. It thrashes around in the backseat, disrupting my driving. Another mission involves delivering a balloon-inflating machine that lifts my truck off the ground whenever the wheels barely leave it. All these scenarios unfold from a top-down perspective reminiscent of Grand Theft Auto 2.

A game like this thrives on how many innovative spins it can put on a simple concept. Although it opens with its most entertaining moments, there are plenty of comedic gags throughout that maintain the variety of missions. One standout mission has me racing toy cars to children in a neighborhood, maneuvering them almost like clumsy slot cars. The police notice and send out a squad of tiny police vehicles to chase after me, attempting to crash into my rides and blow them up. Each mission provided a fresh and unpredictable experience, keeping me engaged even when the ordinary storyline and typical open-world collect-a-thon elements didn’t capture my interest.

However, the true appeal is more primal. The fully destructible environments are a joy to crash into. For the most part, I attempted to perform my duties as a good citizen, following traffic laws as best as I could. Naturally, that didn’t always happen. I often found myself smashing through buildings, watching debris scatter as I sped through. The residents of these explorable areas are not fond of being run over either; they'll attack my truck, forcing me to stop and repair it. Fortunately, I can create upgrades to help with that, like hydraulic doors that can knock away annoying pedestrians. This all contributes to a satisfying and spontaneous brand of comedy as I transform quiet 1950s towns into my personal demolition derby.

While it may feel somewhat dated for what it is and uses its best concepts too quickly, Deliver at All Costs is a delightful little gem similar to Maneater. To put it simply, it offers a light, fun, and humorous premise and executes it well enough to pique your curiosity. And honestly, what are you going to do over the next year while waiting for Grand Theft Auto 6? Get behind the wheel and create some chaos.

Deliver at All Costs is set to launch on May 22 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
