If you enjoy Wordle and Connections, Puzzmo could become your next daily obsession.

If you’ve incorporated puzzle games like Wordle and Connections into your routine recently, you might find another daily obsession in Puzzmo. This new platform transforms the concept of a newspaper puzzle page into a responsive web format that functions across devices. Players can sign up for the free platform now, and there’s also a $40 annual subscription option that unlocks bonus features such as experimental games and leaderboards.

This ambitious new project results from a collaboration between Orta Therox and Zach Gage, a game designer known for mobile games like Knotwords and Good Sudoku. After many years in development, this project serves as a one-stop location for Gage’s puzzle collection, aiming to challenge popular sites like The New York Times.

The New York Times has introduced a new game for its catalog following the ongoing success of Wordle, and this one focuses on math. Digits allows players to add, subtract, multiply, and divide numbers. You can currently play its beta version online for free.

In Digits, players are given a target number to match using six presented numbers through addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division. Not all numbers need to be used, making this game an excellent test of your math skills as you form equations to achieve the closest value to the target number.

Players earn a five-star rating for matching the target number exactly, a three-star rating for being within 10, and a one-star rating for being within 25. At present, players can also try five different puzzles featuring progressively larger numbers. I completed today’s puzzle, and found it to be an enjoyable math-based game that should attract those who enjoy puzzle games like Threes or other New York Times offerings such as Wordle and Spelling Bee.

In an article outlining Digits and the development process of The New York Times Games team, the publication states that the team will use this free beta to address bugs and determine if it should proceed to a more active development phase, where coding and designs are completed. Make sure to check out Digits while you can, as The New York Times may discontinue the project if it doesn’t receive the expected feedback.

Digits' beta is currently free to play on The New York Times Games website.

If you logged onto Twitter around this time last year, you likely remember the moment your feed filled with gray, yellow, and green boxes. Launched in 2021 and gaining mainstream popularity that December, Wordle became a sudden cultural sensation in early 2022, becoming unavoidable except to those who muted related terms. It was a rare success story in gaming, captivating a wide audience due to its straightforward nature.

Wordle's success skyrocketed just as rapidly as its player base. In late January 2022, The New York Times announced it had acquired the puzzle game from creator Josh Wardle for an undisclosed, low-seven-figure sum – a surprising move that almost overshadowed Sony's earlier announcement of acquiring Bungie, the developer of Destiny 2. This acquisition sparked concern among fans, who feared that a corporate takeover could diminish the essence of this highly independent game.
