Huawei is poised to unveil its Nova 14 smartphone series at an upcoming event, where it will also introduce the Huawei MateBook Fold Ultimate Design, a laptop equipped with a foldable screen akin to the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold and the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold. This information was shared by the Huawei Terminal account on Weibo, with the event scheduled for May 19 at 2:30 PM CST.
The device is being developed in collaboration with Hongmeng Computers. Unfortunately, Huawei has not disclosed further details at this time, which is understandable given that the event is just four days away. The MateBook Fold Ultimate Design will not be the first foldable-screen laptop on the market, and we can anticipate its functionality based on existing models.
The teaser image offers limited insight, only displaying a side view and the front of the device, which appears to be covered by a screen protector. The fold seems to be located at the midpoint of the device. If it resembles the ThinkPad X1 Fold, the MateBook Fold is unlikely to feature a built-in keyboard and will function more like a large tablet.
Most likely, the MateBook Fold will rely on a Bluetooth keyboard, although it may also include an on-screen keyboard. There’s a chance that the laptop can be folded with the Bluetooth keyboard placed on top of the lower half, compromising some screen space for a more compact design.
This is merely an informed speculation based on similar devices available, so a degree of skepticism is advisable. More details will be revealed on May 19 when the laptop is showcased alongside the new smartphones and the recently announced HarmonyOS. Until then, specifics about the device's features remain uncertain, though we hope it can be folded into a more manageable shape for easier transportation, taking inspiration from the Asus Zenbook Fold 17.
