TNW Backstage embraces a dual approach to tech humor.

TNW Backstage is embracing a Double Dutch theme this week — in more ways than one.

In the second episode of our new podcast, which takes you behind the scenes of TNW Conference and explores the tech influencing our world, we have two special guests.

Both are located in — you guessed it — the Netherlands. Together, they create a uniquely orange mix of technology and humor that has become a hallmark of TNW.

One of the guests is content creator Derek Mitchell, the creator of the comedy brand Let’s Double Dutch. His viral videos that delve into culture and identity in the Netherlands have garnered international recognition, with his sketches amassing over 250 million views.

      The 💜 of EU tech

The latest buzz from the EU tech scene, insights from our wise founder Boris, and some questionable AI art — it’s all free, delivered weekly to your inbox. Sign up now!

In TNW Backstage, we revisit his talk from last year's conference, where Mitchell discusses how he discovered his voice online — and how you can do the same.

You might be curious about why a comedian is featured at a tech conference. Well, who better to explain than this week's second guest: Boris, the co-founder of TNW.

Boris visits TNW Towers to discuss how humor inspires startup ideas and lightens the burdens of tech work. He also reminisces about memorable moments from TNW Conference, including a daring joke aimed at Amazon’s CTO, wakeboarding through the canals of Amsterdam, and, um, cow poop bingo (an unusual Dutch pastime, apparently).

Our exceptionally talented head of content, Oliviana Bailey, provides a sneak peek into the enjoyable events lined up for this year.

This represents a significant shift from the podcast's debut episode, which examined the changing landscape of data security and Meta’s debated “pay or consent” strategy with Ron de Jesus, the world’s first Field Chief Privacy Officer. However, this contrast highlights the dual aspects of TNW Conference: serious business and a festive atmosphere.

You can catch both episodes of the podcast here. To celebrate the launch, we’re also offering an exclusive discount on TNW Conference tickets, happening on June 19 and 20. The offer is hidden within each episode of TNW Backstage.

Thank you for reading — and now, for listening as well.
