**Poor Things (2023)**
One of the most discussed films of 2023, Poor Things has garnered numerous awards, outstanding reviews, and box office success. It presents a completely original narrative about Bella Baxter (Emma Stone), a young woman in 1882 Victorian London, who is revived by a mad scientist via an experimental brain transplant. However, he uses the brain of her unborn child, leading to Bella's thoughts, behaviors, and actions resembling those of an infant.
While Bella’s cognitive abilities are highly restricted, her perspective on the world and its wonders is invigorating. Nonetheless, she also engages in impulsive and hazardous decisions as she succumbs to primal pleasures (once discovered) and becomes increasingly uncontrollable. Our reviewer commends Stone's performance and the “salty, vulgar, hilarious dialogue,” describing Bella as a “walking metaphor for how women are often infantilized and sexualized simultaneously.”

**Die Alone (2024)**
Originating from Canada, Die Alone is a sci-fi horror film that depicts the plight of survivors in a post-apocalyptic setting where a plant-derived virus transforms people into zombie-like beings. Ethan (Douglas Smith) suffers from memory loss but remembers his girlfriend Emma (Kimberly-Sue Murray) and is determined to find her. Emma, a former ER doctor, was isolating with Ethan in a secluded cabin before she mysteriously vanished. As Ethan’s memories gradually resurface, he confronts a chilling truth.
Featuring Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix films) and Frank Grillo (The Purge, Tulsa King), Die Alone includes unsettling undead creatures but also delves into Ethan’s struggle for truth and his instinct for survival.

**Spaceballs (1987)**
With a sequel reportedly in the works, the parody film Spaceballs takes the narratives of Star Wars and turns them into something completely absurd. The film features the mercenary Lone Starr (Bill Pullman), his alien companion Barf (John Candy), Princess Vespa (Daphne Zuniga), and droid Dot Matrix (portrayed by Lorene Yarnell and voiced by Joan Rivers). The antagonist is President Skroob (Mel Brooks) along with his inept commanders Dark Helmet (Rick Moranis) and Colonel Sandurz (George Wyner). Also significant is the wise Yogurt (also Brooks), who teaches Starr the power of “the Schwartz” to assist him in defeating the foe.
Spaceballs is undeniably silly, but it's a must-watch for fans of parodies and Star Wars. As one of the best parodies of Star Wars, it serves as an excellent sci-fi movie choice for those looking to enjoy a good laugh rather than dim the lights.
