Three new PlayStation Plus games to enjoy this weekend (May 9-11)

One of our favorite aspects of a new month is the opportunity to explore a fresh selection of PlayStation Plus Essential games. While we receive only three new titles each month, unlike Extra and Premium subscribers who sometimes gain access to several dozen games, these games are ours to “keep” as long as we maintain our subscriptions. They also tend to be of higher quality, and this month particularly stands out. This upcoming weekend, you won’t have any difficulty finding something enjoyable from our list, although you may find it challenging to choose which game to spend your time on. It’s a nice dilemma to have as we await Doom: The Dark Ages, especially considering the delay of Lost Soul Aside until the end of August.

      **Balatro**

Unless you’ve been out of the loop over the past year, you’re likely familiar with Balatro and its addictive nature. If you had any doubts about our enthusiasm for this title, now is the perfect time to join in on the fun. Alternatively, if you’ve already enjoyed it on another platform, you can now chase a shiny new Platinum Trophy. Regardless, this is one of the easiest recommendations for your weekend gaming, suitable for every type of gamer. It’s also a fantastic choice to share with friends and family due to its accessibility—just be cautious, as you may not get your controller back for a while. You can play it in short sessions or binge it, and its straightforward rules combined with deep strategic elements make it continuously engaging.

Balatro is currently available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, Mobile, and PC.

      **Ark: Survival Ascended**

If you’ve been a PS Plus subscriber for as long as we have, you likely have a considerable collection of survival games, including a previous edition of this title! However, Ark: Survival Ascended is more than just an expansion or remaster; it’s a comprehensive graphical overhaul of the original game with all the new content included. We all fantasize about living in a world with dinosaurs, and this game allows you to transition from hiding and fighting for survival to taming and creating your own dino army. It's a harsh environment, especially on online servers with up to 70 players, who may be friendly or not, but the experience is enjoyable throughout.

Ark: Survival Ascended is now available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.

      **Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun**

We mentioned the new Doom game for a reason: it provides a segue into discussing Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun. This game embraces the classic boomer shooter aesthetic while incorporating elements from the 40K universe. If you have nostalgic memories of high-octane, gory, power-fantasy shooters set in expansive, maze-like levels filled with secrets, you’re bound to have a great time with this title. It’s incredibly easy to pick up and immediately start enjoying. The graphics are deliberately retro, yet have a clear design quality that reflects the appeal of old-school shooters while still looking attractive today. Most importantly, the audio and feedback of each weapon are flawless.

Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun is now available on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC.
