Yellowstone spinoff: Luke Grimes to portray Kayce Dutton in Y: Marshals airing on CBS.

      Paramount Network

Kayce Dutton is moving to CBS. The network has announced Y: Marshals, a new spinoff of Yellowstone featuring Luke Grimes in the lead role.

In this spinoff, Kayce Dutton will join an elite team of U.S. Marshals. According to the synopsis (via Variety), Kayce will utilize his cowboy and Navy SEAL skills to deliver justice in Montana, where he and his fellow Marshals must navigate the complexities of family, duty, and the mental toll that comes with being the final line of defense in the region's battle against violence.

Spencer Hudnut from SEAL Team will serve as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner for Y: Marshals. Taylor Sheridan, the creative mind behind the Yellowstone franchise, will executive produce the spinoff for MTV Entertainment Studios alongside David C. Glasser. Other executive producers include Grimes, John Linson, Art Linson, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, and Bob Yari.

Y: Marshals is a sequel series set after the events of Yellowstone, the flagship show that aired on Paramount Network for five seasons from 2018 to 2024. CBS has ordered 13 episodes of Y: Marshals and plans to start filming this summer, aiming for a midseason premiere in 2026 on Sunday nights.

In the series finale of Yellowstone, Kayce transferred ownership of the Yellowstone ranch to the reservations for $1.25 per acre—the same price James Dutton paid to establish the land in 1883. In exchange, Kayce received a small parcel to live on with his wife, Monica (Kelsey Asbille), and their son, Tate (Brecken Merrill). It is unclear whether Asbille, Merrill, or any other Yellowstone characters, apart from Kayce, will appear in the spinoff.

Y: Marshals is among several upcoming Yellowstone spinoffs. Two prequel series, 1883 and 1923, were previously shown on Paramount+. Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser will reprise their roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler in Dutton Ranch (working title), a new series set to premiere this fall on the Paramount Network. Unlike Yellowstone, Y: Marshals and Dutton Ranch will be available for streaming on Paramount+.

Additional projects, including The Madison, a spinoff starring Michelle Pfeiffer, and the prequel series 1944, will also be exclusive to Paramount+.
