Apple may divide the launch of the iPhone 18 series to highlight its foldable device.
The year 2026 is anticipated to be significant for the future of the iPhone. Apple is likely to refresh the Siri assistant with improved AI capabilities next year. Additionally, a foldable iPhone seems set for launch in 2026. However, this busy schedule may necessitate some adjustments to the launch timeline.
Typically, Apple unveils its main iPhone lineup in the fall, around September. With the iPhone 18 series making the lineup more extensive, the company is reportedly planning to push the release of entry-level iPhones to 2027, as stated by The Information.
According to the outlet, “The iPhone 18 series will feature updated versions of Apple’s ultra-slim iPhone, Pro, and Pro Max, along with the new foldable device.” In the spring of 2027, Apple aims to introduce the standard iPhone 18 and a successor to the more budget-friendly iPhone 16e, as per sources.
Why is this a logical decision?

In the last four years, Apple has released four smartphones at a time. Besides the entry-level model, the company has offered “Pro” versions in two sizes while alternating between “mini” and “Plus” models. The previous iPhone SE and the new “e” series phones typically debuted in the spring.
Apple’s approach is similar to that of other brands. Yet, in the rush to deliver yearly generational upgrades, the potential for innovation diminishes. Furthermore, consumers often feel unsatisfied with their seemingly outdated devices as manufacturers unveil new versions with advanced features and exclusive software advantages.
For instance, Apple Intelligence excluded the non-Pro iPhone 15 series models only a year after their launch. Similarly, the latest Photographic Styles are exclusive to the iPhone 16 series, leaving out the earlier released iPhone 16e.
What should we anticipate from Apple in 2027?
By moving the launch of the entry-level iPhone 18 to 2027, Apple will provide more space for the remaining devices. The iPhone 18 Pro duo, the ultra-slim “Air” model, and the highly awaited foldable iPhone are expected to take center stage at the company's fall launch event next year.

The foldable iPhone could play a pivotal role in Apple's future plans. Although the company is considerably late to this segment compared to its Android competitors, it may still make a significant impact. Reports indicate that Apple has potentially resolved one of the major challenges of foldable displays by nearly eliminating the crease.
Additionally, the success of the foldable iPhone might influence Apple's intentions regarding the anticipated foldable iPad and, eventually, MacBooks as well. However, the phone will need to impress in several areas, particularly with software optimizations.
While it is expected to be quite costly, this aligns with Apple's typical pricing strategy. Moreover, the iPhone 18 Pro models are rumored to eliminate the pill-shaped display cutout, opting instead for under-display Face ID and a small round cutout for the front camera in one of the upper corners.
With a significant iPhone revamp scheduled for 2027, it is logical for Apple to postpone the standard iPhone 18 and shift its release to a spring cycle, possibly coinciding with the next generation of iPads and Mac hardware. However, it's important to remember that these are preliminary reports, and the plans may evolve in the future.
