Weapons | Official Trailer
If you experience unsettling dreams after viewing the official trailer for Weapons, you can attribute that to Zach Cregger. The writer-director of Barbarian presents a new intense horror film centered around a case of missing children in Maybrook.
“This is a true story that happened in my town,” a young voice ominously declares in the trailer. “Every other class had all their kids, but Mrs. Gandy’s room was completely empty.”
One night, every child in Mrs. Gandy’s class except one awoke at 2:17 a.m., walked downstairs, left their homes, and disappeared. The children never returned, leaving their parents desperate for answers. What could have occurred? Is there something malevolent involved?
The trailer features a scene of the children facedown at their desks in a dimly lit classroom. One child looks up from his seat malevolently, just before Julia Garner, portraying Mrs. Gandy, awakens in bed screaming.
In addition to Garner, the cast of Weapons includes Josh Brolin, Alden Ehrenreich, Austin Abrams, Cary Christopher, Benedict Wong, and Amy Madigan.
New Line Cinema
Cregger writes and directs Weapons, describing it as a horror epic akin to Paul Thomas Anderson’s Magnolia. He produces alongside Roy Lee, Miri Yoon, J.D. Lifshitz, and Raphael Margules.
Following the success of Barbarian in 2022, numerous studios vied for the rights to Weapons. After a competitive bidding process, Warner Bros.’ New Line Cinema prevailed, securing the project for around $38 million, with Cregger receiving $10 million for his contributions as writer, director, and producer.
Universal was another contender for Weapons alongside New Line. Initially, Jordan Peele and his Monkeypaw Productions were set to produce it. There are various speculative reasons as to why Universal did not match New Line's bid, but what remains factual is that Peele parted ways with his managers Joel Zadak and Peter Principato after losing the auction, which is notable since Principato is also Cregger’s manager.
Peele is not alone in his belief in Weapons. Warner Bros. is so confident in its potential success that they have moved its release from 2026 to the summer of 2025. Weapons is now set to debut in theaters on August 8, 2025.
