Blade: Fresh disheartening updates surface regarding the troubled Marvel reboot.

At this point, each update regarding Blade seems to be getting worse.
The troubled Marvel film has recently been in the spotlight for negative reasons. Creatives associated with the Blade reboot have started discussing their original concepts now that Marvel has put the film on indefinite hold.
Grammy Award winner Flying Lotus, who recently both wrote and directed Ash, shared that he had intended to compose music for the MCU’s Blade, starring Mahershala Ali in the lead role.
“I guess we’re far from it even being a possibility now but, yeah, I was signed on to write music for the new Blade movie before it fell through,” Flying Lotus expressed on X. “Maybe it’ll come back around, but I doubt it. It would have been fun, though.”
On the Designing Hollywood podcast, Academy Award-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter visited to discuss her project Sinners. Similarly to Sinners, Blade was being developed as a vampire period piece set in the 1920s. Since Blade has been paused, Carter utilized her research for the Blade reboot in Coogler’s Sinners.
“I was in the process of prepping Blade for Marvel, which was a 1920s story, and it got shut down due to the writers’ and actors’ strikes, so I was left in limbo,” Carter stated on the podcast. “Having done extensive research for this vampire period piece — since Blade is a vampire story — [Coogler]’s wife, Zinzi, who was also a producer on [Sinners], called me and said, ‘I’m not going to disclose the story, but Ryan has a narrative he’s going to share with you about… It involves vampires and is set in a historic period.’ I thought, ‘Okay, I’ve been immersing myself in that realm for quite a while prepping Blade, and since Blade isn’t happening, let me hear what he has to say.’”
In relation to Sinners, Delroy Lindo, who acted in Coogler’s film, was also attached to the Blade reboot. Lindo disclosed to EW that he was slated to portray a character reminiscent of Marcus Garvey, a leader of a community. He was eager to take on the role until Blade “went off the rails.”
“When Marvel approached me, they seemed genuinely interested in my input,” Lindo told EW. “In the various discussions I had with producers, the writer, and the director at the time, it all indicated a focus on inclusivity. It was conceptually thrilling, and also exciting in terms of the character that was to be developed. Then, for reasons unknown, it just fell apart.” Ali's involvement in Blade dates back to 2019 during Marvel's presentation at San Diego Comic-Con. However, the film faced numerous delays and underwent several directors, including Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange. In October 2024, Kevin Feige removed Blade from its scheduled release in November 2025.

Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and other X-Men cast members join Avengers: Doomsday
Welcome to the MCU's Mutant Era.
On March 26, Marvel Studios officially announced the cast of Avengers: Doomsday via a live stream video on the company's YouTube channel. Every 10 to 12 minutes, an actor's chair was introduced, revealing their role in the fifth Avengers film.
One of the key highlights from the stream was the inclusion of X-Men characters. Actors reprising their roles include Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier/Professor X, Ian McKellen as Erik Lensherr/Magneto, Kelsey Grammer as Dr. Hank McCoy/Beast, Alan Cumming as Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn as Raven Darkhölme/Mystique, James Marsden as Scott Summers/Cyclops, and Channing Tatum as Remy LeBeau/Gambit.
ANNOUNCEMENT
Stewart, McKellen, Romijn, and Marsden featured in the original X-Men trilogy (2000-2006) produced by 20th Century Fox. Cumming made his debut as Nightcrawler in X2, while Grammer appeared in X-Men: The Last Stand. After his solo film was canceled, Tatum finally portrayed Gambit in Deadpool & Wolverine.
Following Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox, the X-Men have gradually been integrated into the MCU. Stewart first appeared as Professor X in the MCU with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Grammer had a cameo as Beast in the post-credits scene of The Marvels.
While Marvel has not revealed the entirety of the Doomsday cast, further X-Men casting announcements might come in the future. It’s also possible Marvel is keeping certain X-Men appearances, such as Hugh Jackman as Wolverine or Halle Berry
