Samsung’s One UI 7 faced some challenges at its launch, but One UI 8.5 has the potential to be a significant improvement.
If you’re a Samsung owner who successfully installed the One UI 7 update, you may be curious about what's next. While nothing definitive has been announced, leakers are already discussing Samsung's plans for its Android-based interface, which appear to extend further than many anticipated. It seems Samsung is currently developing One UI 8.5, and it could potentially be significant.
This information comes from Android Authority. A few leakers have recently hinted at the possibility of One UI 8.5, with insider Tarun Vats indicating that Samsung intends to release One UI 8.5 shortly after One UI 8. While a specific timeline is still unclear, it may make its debut alongside the Galaxy S26 series, likely in early next year.
Additionally, Sammypolice has found indications of One UI 8.5 within Samsung’s code, suggesting this is more than a mere rumor — it appears that 8.5 is indeed in the works. This update would represent a noteworthy return of the .5 version, which hasn't been utilized since One UI 2.5 in 2020.
There are rumors that One UI 8 will be a relatively minor update. Supposedly set to launch alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Galaxy Z Flip 7, this version may not introduce many new features; the leaks suggest that 8.5 will be the update to bring substantial changes. We’ll have to wait and see what unfolds.
The journey with Samsung's One UI 7 has been quite eventful. Initially, the update faced numerous delays, and users were pleased with it. However, Samsung soon halted the rollout after reports surfaced of a significant bug that prevented users from unlocking their Samsung Galaxy S24 devices. Thankfully, One UI 7 has finally arrived, and we hope to maintain it this time around.
Samsung One UI 8 could potentially debut as early as August 2025. As Samsung begins distributing One UI 7 on devices running Android 15, the Galaxy S25 models are the first in line. However, with Google accelerating the release of Android 16, One UI 7 might not last long on your device before being succeeded by One UI 8.
The foundation for this update comes from Google's revised timeline for launching the next Android version. Google is moving this earlier in the year, so Android 16 is expected to be released by around June 2025. To avoid falling even further behind, Samsung will need to act quickly to push out the next update.
Samsung has officially commenced the rollout of Android 15 and One UI 7 to its current devices after the launch of the Galaxy S25 series, which introduced the software earlier this year. Samsung has faced considerable criticism regarding the speed of this update, especially since Android 15 was made available on Pixel devices on October 15, 2024. Nearly six months have passed since the first devices received the update, and we are likely only two months away from the launch of Android 16.
Samsung Galaxy users have been eagerly anticipating the Samsung One UI 7 update, which is set to refresh home screens and introduce new features, including AI capabilities. Recent information shared by tipster Tarun Vats on X and provided by the Czech Republic version of the Samsung Newsroom details when One UI 7 will be accessible in that region. Furthermore, as noted by Android Central, the release dates for the Czech Republic and the US may coincide.
