The X-Files has been inactive since its last revival on Fox in 2018, but Ryan Coogler’s vision for the franchise is still progressing. The director of Marvel’s Black Panther films and the recently released Sinners has mentioned that The X-Files is “immediately next” and he has already had discussions with original cast member Gillian Anderson regarding a possible return as Dana Scully.

In his appearance on Last Podcast on the Left, Coogler confirmed that he has reached out to Anderson and remarked, “she’s incredible. Fingers crossed there.”

Anderson first portrayed Scully in 1993, appearing alongside David Duchovny’s Agent Fox Mulder during the initial seven seasons of the series. Duchovny departed in season 8 but returned for the finale in 2002. In the last two seasons of the original run, Anderson received top billing. Both actors also starred in the two feature films based on The X-Files and the two-season revival on Fox from 2016 to 2018. However, Anderson has indicated that she is not interested in returning for a third season of the revival.

Deadline noted that during a 2004 appearance on Today, Anderson expressed her support for Coogler’s new direction for the franchise. She did not commit to returning but suggested that she was open to appearing in some form.

It remains uncertain how the new incarnation of The X-Files will relate to the original series. Coogler did not provide details about that during his guest appearance on Last Podcast on the Left but hinted at a desire to return to the show’s horror elements.

“I’ve been excited about that for a long time, and I’m fired up to get back to it,” Coogler stated. “If we do our jobs correctly, some episodes will be truly… scary. We’re aiming to create something really great for the die-hard X-Files fans and potentially attract new ones.”

Anderson has not yet commented on her conversation with Coogler on social media, but she has announced a follow-up to her bestselling anthology of female sexual fantasies, Want. According to The Guardian, Anderson is accepting new submissions on her official site, which will be open until May 23.

      Ryan Coogler to produce Ironheart

In 2018, director Ryan Coogler's Black Panther became one of Marvel's highest-grossing films and secured the studio its first Best Picture nomination. Coogler is currently completing the sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, ahead of its release later this year. Now, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Coogler is broadening his partnership with Marvel Studios by executive producing the upcoming Disney+ original series Ironheart.

Created by Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato in 2016, Ironheart follows Riri Williams, a 15-year-old tech prodigy attending MIT. Riri successfully reverse-engineered Tony Stark's Iron Man armor to craft her own suit. Stark was so impressed with her skills that he supported her aspiration to become a superhero. In the series, Dominique Thorne will portray Riri, a role she will debut in Wakanda Forever.

      The best X-Files episodes

It’s been over 25 years since The X-Files premiered in 1993, featuring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, and made many believe that "the truth is out there." FBI Agents Fox Mulder (Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Anderson) recently returned to the forefront with a successful revival that brought the series back for its 10th season in 2016 after a 14-year break from television (and eight years since The X-Files: I Want to Believe was released in theaters in 2008). The positive response to that six-episode revival led Fox to produce a 10-episode 11th season in 2018. Although there are no current plans for a 12th season, fans can still enjoy over 200 television episodes, two feature films, and numerous tie-in novels and comics centered on Mulder and Scully’s quests involving aliens, monsters, and unusual phenomena.

The best Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan collaborations, ranked

Director and screenwriter Ryan Coogler has directed only five feature films, all starring Michael B. Jordan. Their collaboration has proven to be a potent combination, as shown by Sinners’ unexpectedly strong box-office performance over the weekend, where it surpassed this year's current box-office leader, A Minecraft Movie, in its third weekend.

With Sinners on track to become a hit, it is time to look back and rank all five of the Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan films from least to most favorable. Although it seems unlikely that Jordan
