In Predator: Badlands, Elle Fanning joins forces with... a predator!
**Predator: Badlands | Teaser Trailer**
In the Predator franchise, humans take on the role of heroes while the Predators are positioned as villains. These two factions have engaged in life-or-death confrontations across the globe, from the jungles of Central America to the Great Plains of America and the streets of Los Angeles. However, in Predator: Badlands, the narrative is flipped as the Predator assumes the role of the protagonist.
20th Century Studios has unveiled the first teaser for Predator: Badlands, inviting viewers into a world filled with peril. The story centers on Dek (Dimitrius Schuster-Koloamatangi), a Predator who is an outcast from his clan. During his exploration of this alien planet, Dek encounters Thia (Elle Fanning), who seems to be an android created by the Weyland-Yutani corporation.
The logline discloses that the Predator “embarks on a perilous quest in search of the ultimate foe.” Yet, Thia suspects that Dek is “hunting something that cannot be slain.” The teaser concludes with the Predator facing off against a creature reminiscent of a dinosaur before transitioning to the title.
If it seems like you’re supporting the Predator, that is the intention set by director Dan Trachtenberg. “We’re pushing the boundaries of the franchise, allowing us to cheer for a hero we seldom get to root for, but in a different manner,” Trachtenberg explained to Empire regarding the choice to make the Predator the protagonist. “This evolved into the grand idea of supporting the Predator.”

Trachtenberg directs Badlands from a screenplay he co-wrote with Patrick Aison. He significantly revitalized the Predator franchise with the 2022 release of Prey, a remarkable prequel featuring a young Comanche woman confronting a ruthless Predator on the Great Plains in 1719. Prey debuted on Hulu in August 2022, achieving high viewership and receiving critical acclaim, including six Emmy nominations.
In 2025, there will be not just one, but two Predator films. Trachtenberg has collaborated with Micho Robert Rutare for an animated anthology titled Predator: Killer of Killers. This sci-fi adventure showcases three elite warriors—a Viking raider, a ninja, and a WWII pilot—and their fierce encounters with the Predators. Predator: Killer of Killers is set to stream on Hulu on June 6.
Later this year, Predator: Badlands will be released in theaters on November 7.
