The most recent Pixel Watch update helps users who are still on outdated software.

If you are a Google Pixel Watch owner, we have great news for you! As reported by Android Authority, a new software update has been issued for all Pixel Watch models, tackling two major issues.
This update resolves a significant bug from the March software update that impacted step tracking precision. It also allows all Pixel Watch users to upgrade to Wear OS 5.1; some users have experienced difficulties receiving updates since November.
The latest software version, BP1A.250305.019.W8, is currently being deployed to Pixel Watch 1, 2, and 3 worldwide. According to the release notes:
“Beginning today, all Pixel Watch devices will receive updates to address some of the issues listed below. The rollout will occur over the next few weeks in phases, based on carrier and device type. Users will receive a notification on their Watch when the software update is ready for their device.”
The prior software update included a “step count algorithm enhancement” that led some watches to report abnormally high step counts in certain situations. To fix this, Google has reverted the algorithm to its original, more reliable state.
This is not the first instance of Google needing to fix software problems with its Pixel Watches. A similar issue arose last September that required a bug fix. Additionally, some Pixel Watch users experienced notification delays last month.
The Pixel Watch 4 is anticipated to launch later this year. This new device is rumored to be Google's most sophisticated yet, possibly debuting alongside the Pixel 10 series this summer. Industry insiders suggest it may feature a completely redesigned circular chassis with a slimmer profile, addressing a major criticism of previous models. The display is expected to use next-generation LTPO OLED technology for better battery efficiency while keeping always-on functionality. Battery life could improve significantly through both hardware enhancements and more efficient Wear OS software.
Processing power is anticipated to rise with a new custom Tensor wearable chip co-developed with Samsung, potentially offering improved AI capabilities directly on the device.

Oppo smartwatch may pave the way for the smaller OnePlus Watch 3 we've been hoping for
One drawback of the impressive OnePlus Watch 3 is its single case size, but with the launch of the Oppo smartwatch in China, the situation may change. The Oppo Watch X2 Mini has an official launch date of April 10 and is up for pre-order in China; it could serve as the model for a OnePlus Watch 3 Mini.
Before discussing the smartwatch, some context is needed. In 2021, Oppo and OnePlus formed a strategic partnership, effectively sharing research, development, software, and even camera collaborations. Although they release distinct products, many similarities exist. The OnePlus Watch 3 has an Oppo counterpart called the Oppo Watch X2, and the two are essentially identical.
The Google Pixel 9a lacks a crucial life-saving feature
Launched earlier this week, the Pixel 9a brings the essence of the Pixel 9 in a more compact and affordable package. However, with a lower price, the Pixel 9a sacrifices some advantages of the premium Pixel 9 models, including certain key Gemini AI functionalities.
While it is equipped with the same Tensor G4 chipset as the Pixel 9 and the 9 Pro, the Pixel 9a omits a life-saving feature: satellite-based SOS capability. Google confirmed this omission to Android Authority, clarifying that you won't be able to call or text in emergency situations where you are stranded without a network—something you would be able to do with the Pixel 9, 9 Pro, and 9 Pro Fold models. Google provides these services on premium Pixel phones in the U.S., Canada, the UK, and parts of Europe.
Why the Pixel 9a is missing satellite SOS connectivity
The reason Google excluded satellite connectivity from the Pixel 9a is due to its use of an older modem. Unlike the Pixel 9 series, which incorporates the newer and more advanced Samsung Exynos 5400 modem, the 9a utilizes the earlier Exynos 5300. The newer modem enables 5G non-terrestrial networking (NTN), facilitating connections with low-orbit communication satellites when cellular networks are unavailable.
I compared the OnePlus Watch 3 and the Galaxy Watch 7. Here’s which one you should choose
If you're looking for a smartwatch for your Android phone, there are currently two outstanding options: the OnePlus Watch 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Watch 7. In my review, I praised the OnePlus Watch 3 as the best smartwatch for Android devices, but also encouraged buyers not to overlook the Galaxy Watch 7. I decided to compare the two to determine which is the better purchase.
