The final trailer for Thunderbolts hints at a chance for redemption for Marvel’s antiheroes.

Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts* | Final Trailer | In Theaters May 2

Redemption is the central theme in the final trailer for Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*.

The members of the Thunderbolts—Florence Pugh as Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes, David Harbour as Red Guardian, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster, and Wyatt Russell as John Walker—have all committed wrongdoings. With the Avengers absent, the world is in need of new heroes as the Void (Lewis Pullman) poses a threat by unleashing darkness that could annihilate humanity.

Bucky seeks to motivate the team, suggesting that they can either cope with their regrets or take action. "Being the hero, there is no higher calling," Red Guardian tells Yelena. After some persuasion, Yelena decides to accept her role in the battle.

"We can't stop him alone. No one can," Yelena asserts with regard to confronting the Void. "But together, we can find a way."

Society has scorned the Thunderbolts, fostering an underdog perspective within the group. Pugh feels that this outsider mentality infuses Thunderbolts* with a “badass indie, A24-feeling assassin movie with Marvel superheroes.”

The cast also includes Geraldine Viswanathan, Chris Bauer, Wendell Pierce, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

Jake Schreier, who won an Emmy for his work on Netflix’s Beef, directs Thunderbolts* from a script by Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is producing, alongside executive producers Louis D’Esposito, Brian Chapek, and Jason Tamez.

Thunderbolts* marks the final film in Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with The Fantastic Four: First Steps set to launch Phase Six in July. Several Thunderbolts characters will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, including Pugh, Stan, Harbour, John-Kamen, Russell, and Pullman.

Marvel Studios will premiere Thunderbolts* in theaters on May 2.
