A new render of the iPhone 17 Pro leaves us speculating about its final design.
Apple is anticipated to unveil the iPhone 17 series later this year, likely in September, following its typical release schedule. Based on our estimations, we're about five months away, though we're more adept at writing than calculating.
What we can be certain of is that in the upcoming months, there will likely be a flurry of conflicting rumors regarding the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro models’ design. A few months ago, it was indicated that the iPhone 17 Pro models would incorporate a new camera bar on the back, adopting a design reminiscent of Google’s Pixel.
It was also suggested that these models would sport a two-tone rear, with mock-ups depicting the camera bar in black and the rest of the phone in grey. Recently, however, Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reported in his Power On newsletter that he heard “the iPhone 17 Pro won’t feature a two-toned rear” and that “the camera section will match the color of the rest of the device.”
So, will it have a two-tone rear or not?
Now, a render has surfaced online that aligns with Gurman’s statement. The render, shared on X (formerly Twitter) by kanedacane tweets (@kdctweets) and reported by PhoneArena, displays the raised camera bar at the top of the device in the same color as the rest of the back. As observed in earlier renders, the LED flash is located on the right side, accompanied by the LiDAR sensor and the microphone, while the camera lenses are positioned on the left.
The post lacks further details, but the render provides insight into what the device might resemble without a two-tone back if Gurman’s information proves to be accurate.
Whether the iPhone 17 Pro models will feature a two-tone rear remains uncertain until the official announcement later this year. Unlike brands such as Google, Nothing, and OnePlus, Apple doesn’t tease designs ahead of launches, so we can expect a few more months of speculation and likely a number of leaks as well.

Five reasons I'm looking forward to the new Google Pixel 9a
For the past six years, Google has consistently been among the top smartphones for offering affordable devices, particularly through its Pixel A series. The Pixel 3a set a precedent for major phone manufacturers to deliver a strong user experience at half the price of flagship models, heightening competition in this category.
In recent months, Samsung has introduced the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36, which bring features from the Galaxy S25 series to customers at a significantly reduced price. Additionally, Apple has entered this space with the iPhone 16e, priced much higher than its competitors. Furthermore, Nothing has released the Nothing Phone 3a and Phone 3a Pro, arguably presenting the best options available at $379 and $459, respectively.
iPad Pro with next-gen M5 silicon could launch later this year
Tablets are increasingly serving as unofficial testing grounds for Apple’s next-generation silicon. The 2024 iPad Pro showcased the M4 chip before it appeared in Mac products. Continuously leading this innovation, the next iPad Pro update could be among the first devices to feature an M5 series processor. As per Bloomberg, the next iPad Pro is currently undergoing advanced stages of internal testing and is expected to launch later this year, likely in the fall.
Earlier this year, Apple introduced the M4 series refresh to its Mac lineup, which includes the MacBook Air, Pro, and Studio models. The M4 Pro and M4 Max processors were only rolled out late last year, making it increasingly likely that a baseline M5 will debut this year, followed by its Pro, Max, or Ultra variants.
Given the relatively new status of the current Mac hardware, the upcoming iPad Pro appears to be the first candidate for the next-gen M5 processor. “The new versions of that model, identified as J817, J818, J820, and J821, are in the late testing stages at Apple and are set for production in the latter half of this year,” the report states.
What should we anticipate from the M5 iPad Pro?
In terms of design, no significant changes are expected from Apple, consistent with their past practices. The iPad Pro underwent a significant redesign in 2024, adopting a sleek appearance, featuring one less camera, and introducing a new keyboard accessory.
Regarding silicon, reports indicate that the M5 series will utilize a 3nm process and will be based on ARM's next-generation CPU architecture. Besides the 2025 iPad Pro, Apple is also anticipated to release new MacBook Pro models later this year, equipped with an M5-tier processor.
