Foldable phones have been in existence for over five years now, and there are numerous options on the market. It's not just Samsung and Google competing in the folding sector, but also Motorola, Huawei, Oppo, OnePlus, and Honor. However, one major company is noticeably absent: Apple.

There have been persistent rumors of Apple developing a folding iPhone, alongside speculations about a larger foldable device. Both are expected to enter mass production by late 2026, with a potential launch occurring towards the end of next year or in early 2027.

What’s the most recent rumor regarding the iPhone Fold?

In the meantime, numerous rumors about the iPhone Fold are likely to surface, as it is referred to, and the latest pertains to the camera on the outer display. Korean news aggregator yeux1122, mentioned by MacRumors, has reported information from Lanzuk on Weibo suggesting that the iPhone Fold will feature a punch-hole front-facing camera on its outer display.

It is expected to be “almost identical to current foldables,” such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6, Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and the OnePlus Open, which may disappoint those hoping for Apple to introduce something unique to the market given its late entry. It remains unclear whether the camera will be integrated into a Dynamic Island setup, which would indeed be different, or positioned like the current options available.

Previous rumors have indicated that Apple may not incorporate Face ID in the folding iPhone, opting instead to include Touch ID within the side button.

No further new details were shared by yeux1122 or Lanzuk, although the post did echo prior rumors about the screen sizes and resolutions. It is reported that the internal display of the iPhone Fold will measure 7.76 inches with a resolution of 2,713 x 1,920 pixels, while the external display will be 5.49 inches with a resolution of 2,088 x 1,422 pixels.

For now, there is no official confirmation of the iPhone Fold, as Apple has not even acknowledged that it is developing a folding phone. With the trend for foldables seemingly continuing, it would seem unusual for Apple not to eventually enter the market; however, it remains to be seen what will actually come of all the rumors.

A $2,300 iPhone? The recent tariffs make that a possibility

According to a report from Rosenblatt Securities, Apple’s iPhone may experience a significant price increase due to the recent tariffs. Analysts suggest these tariffs could lead to a price rise of approximately 30% to 40%, should Apple decide to pass the increased costs onto consumers. Neil Shah, an analyst from Counterpoint Research, suggests that Apple would need to raise prices by an average of 30%, while analysts from Rosenblatt estimate the increase to be closer to 43%.

To illustrate this possible price hike, consider the current $799 price of the iPhone 16. If its price were to increase by 43%, it would reach around $1,142. Conversely, the iPhone 16 Pro Max—currently priced at $1,599 for its base model—could rise to just under $2,300 ($2,286.57, to be precise).
