Google is considering a free tier for the AI video-making application Gemini Veo 2.

Google seems to be working on a freemium version of its Gemini Veo 2 video generation tool, as revealed by findings from a recent APK teardown.
Veo 2, an AI tool that generates videos based on text prompts, has previously only been accessible through Gemini Advanced. However, this may soon change. According to Android Police, certain code snippets in the app suggest that free access might be introduced, allowing a larger audience to experiment with AI video creation without a subscription.
The teardown also suggests that there may be some limitations for free users. References to "credit limits" and a potential upgrade requirement imply there will be restrictions, likely on usage frequency or export resolution. This aligns with the structure of other freemium AI services, which offer enough functionality for casual use while allowing access to more advanced features through upgrades.
If this holds true, the app could become available to all users, albeit with some usage constraints, though specifics about these limitations have not yet been clarified.
This isn’t the first indication that Gemini's features might extend beyond paywalls. Recently, Google also made its Deep Research feature accessible to the public with similar limitations, indicating an effort to increase accessibility to its AI tools.
There is no official announcement regarding when Veo 2 will be accessible on the free tier, but the presence of these code snippets in the current app version suggests that its release could be imminent. Once available, it could become one of the first broadly accessible text-to-video tools from a leading tech company, putting Google’s generative AI in competition with platforms like Runway and Pika.
