These are the Nintendo Switch 2 follow-ups that I am eager to see.

      While I anxiously await the arrival of the Nintendo Switch 2, I've been contemplating the impressive library of games from its predecessor. The Switch boasts one of the finest collections of games among any console, if not the very best, primarily due to a wealth of high-quality exclusives from Nintendo's most prominent franchises. Of course, I’m eager to see new installments of Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing on the Switch 2, but I've also been considering which smaller titles could thrive on a console featuring a completely new control scheme.

      As I compiled my ultimate wish list of games that could benefit from the Switch 2’s new capabilities, I discovered that my excitement didn't stem from the major titles. Instead, I began imagining sequels to some of the Switch’s lesser-known releases. These are the games that seem to be in the best position to utilize mouse controls and camera features. I mention this to prepare you for the list of Switch games I'd like to see get a sequel on Switch 2, which might raise some eyebrows at first. It’s not that I don’t want to see Super Mario Odyssey 2 or other major games; rather, I see tremendous potential for Nintendo's lesser-known titles to truly shine.

      **Super Mario Maker 2**

      Creating Super Mario Maker for the Switch 2 seems so obvious that I'm surprised it wasn’t announced during the April 2’s Switch 2 Direct. The level editing tool was designed originally for the Wii U’s gamepad, allowing players to easily create levels on a larger screen. While this didn’t translate perfectly to the Switch, Nintendo still managed to produce an excellent sequel that expanded the series significantly. The Switch 2 presents a chance for Nintendo to enhance that experience further, integrating more precise mouse controls to streamline level creation. It feels like the ideal culmination for the series, aside from simply porting it to PC.

      **WarioWare: Move It!**

      One notable surprise of the Switch era was Nintendo's dedication to reviving WarioWare. I didn’t expect the series to see two new releases on Switch, let alone one, but Nintendo clearly recognized its potential. This decision birthed WarioWare: Move It, one of the Switch’s most underappreciated multiplayer treasures. This success has me wishing for a new entry on Switch 2 that features mouse-controlled minigames, camera support, and potentially microphone integration. Wacky control schemes are where WarioWare excels, so I believe the Move It team could come up with numerous inventive microgame ideas leveraging the console’s technology. Having already witnessed how well new controls worked for the recent Super Mario Party Jamboree minigames, I can only imagine the absurd challenges Wario might concoct in his next installment.

      **New Pokémon Snap**

      Did any game in the Switch generation float by as swiftly as New Pokémon Snap? Before its announcement, a sequel to Pokémon Snap was a dream game for nostalgic fans. After years of wishing, we finally saw that fantasy realized on Switch, and it was delightful. However, it didn’t generate much hype, yet I still hold out hope for another installment on Switch 2. Like every game on this list, I envision mouse and motion controls enhancing the experience. I would love a sequel that enables me to frame my shots more accurately with a mouse and perhaps even use my Joy-con to toss items like bait. Imagine being able to integrate my webcam to appear in my photos! There’s a wealth of unexplored creative potential for the series, and the Switch 2 might be the platform to fully harness it.

      **Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope**

      Let’s be realistic from the outset: a new Mario + Rabbids game is very unlikely. Despite its excellence, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope was labeled a commercial failure at launch and faced significant discounts. However, that approach helped it surpass three million units sold by January 2024. I hope this might inspire Nintendo and Ubisoft to collaborate once more because Mario + Rabbids could be ideal for Switch 2. Tactics games lend themselves particularly well to mouse controls, so I can envision how the new Joy-cons could enhance gameplay fluidity. Both Fire Emblem and Advance Wars could benefit from this control scheme as well, but I find myself most eager to see what this series could achieve with a mouse, given its creative approach to tactics in the Switch generation.

      **Snipperclips**

      When discussing the Nintendo Switch’s launch titles, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild often takes the spotlight. However, it wasn’t the only fantastic exclusive available on day one; Snipperclips also launched with the console, offering a delightful co-op experience designed for single Joy-con multiplayer. In this game, players needed to cut shapes from each other to solve puzzles. It remains one of the Switch's best-kept secrets, and I've always wished for more of it.
