Ari Aster transports viewers back to 2020 with the official trailer for Eddington.
“Naturally, they’re still examining that lab in China. If you check out the lab in Wuhan,” the voiceover begins. “It was established in 1956, which, interestingly, is the year Tom Hanks was born, the first celebrity affected by the virus.”
The trailer for Eddington unfolds during the pandemic, showcasing Sheriff Joe Cross (Joaquin Phoenix) scrolling through his Instagram while lying in bed. In one clip, Cross holds a press conference stating, “If your life matters to you, reconsider because the folks at Eddington are fond of firearms.” He is later depicted confronting a protester in a “town shaken by murders,” but attempts to explain the incident while pleading with the camera, calling it an accident.
Other clips feature an ad for Mayor Ted Garcia’s (Pedro Pascal) reelection, an impassioned speech from Austin Butler’s character, and Louise Cross (Emma Stone) issuing an apology while refuting her husband’s statement.
