      Rotel

Do you have limited space on your media shelf for a large integrated amplifier or multi-component stereo system? Rotel may have the solution with its newly unveiled DX-5, a sleek and compact audiophile device that offers versatile connectivity from one of the top audio brands.

Although it has a modest size of 8.5 x 3 x 9.75 inches and a weight of 9 pounds, the DX-5 may not be a high-wattage machine, but its output of 33 watts per channel at 4 ohms (25 watts per channel at 8 ohms) is produced through clean and confident Class AB amplification. According to Rotel, the DX-5 delivers “pristine highs, detailed midrange, and deep bass,” thanks to its in-house wound high-current toroidal transformer, making it ideal for those seeking outstanding performance in smaller environments.

Inside the DX-5 is the efficient ESS ES9039Q2M Sabre DAC, which Rotel claims provides ultra-low noise and a wide soundstage from 10 Hz to 100 kHz, ensuring rich audio for smaller rooms. The ESS DAC accommodates high-resolution audio files such as PCM (up to 32-bit/384kHz) and DSD 256 and includes all the necessary connectivity, including USB-B and Coaxial/Optical (at 24-bit/192kHz) inputs, along with an RCA AUX input for analog devices like turntables, and Bluetooth support for AAC and high-resolution aptX HD codecs. It's also Roon certified.

The Rotel DX-5 also boasts a competitive edge over other integrated amplifiers of this compact size with the inclusion of an HDMI eARC input for easy connection to your TV, allowing it to function as a modest home theater system instead of just a soundbar or more advanced surround sound system. Moreover, the subwoofer output provides further expansion opportunities for enhanced bass, depending on speaker compatibility.

In terms of design, the MX-5 is visually striking. Available in both black and silver finishes, the amplifier’s front panel features a vibrant full-color TFT display, a glowing power button, a 6.35mm headphone jack for private listening, and a large, smooth volume control. An elegant aluminum remote control is also included.

The Rotel DX-5 will launch in North America, Europe, and the U.K. this April, with a price tag of US$1,499. Additional information is available on Rotel’s website.
