Murderbot — Official Trailer | Apple TV+
Emmy-winning actor Alexander Skarsgård portrays a rebellious security robot in the trailer for Murderbot, a new sci-fi series on Apple TV+.
Skarsgård is the eponymous Murderbot, a Security (SEC) Unit programmed to protect and obey humans. Murderbot successfully hacked its own programming to gain free will, a secret it must keep hidden from humans. “I can do whatever I want as long as they don’t find out,” Murderbot says in the trailer.
While on a mission on a perilous planet, a group of scientists discovers Murderbot's secret, interrupting its favorite pastime: binge-watching futuristic soap operas. Now, Murderbot must confront its fears and navigate human emotions.
In addition to Skarsgård, the cast includes Noma Dumezweni, David Dastmalchian, Sabrina Wu, Akshay Khanna, Tattiawna Jones, and Tamara Podemski.
Chris and Paul Weitz created, wrote, directed, and produced Murderbot for Apple TV+. The Weitz brothers received an Academy Award nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay for the 2002 film About a Boy. Murderbot is based on Martha Wells’ award-winning sci-fi novel series The Murderbot Diaries, with Wells serving as a consulting producer. David S. Goyer is an executive producer alongside Andrew Miano and Keith Levine.
Murderbot is the newest addition to Apple TV+'s expanding sci-fi lineup. Severance, the platform's most prominent sci-fi series, recently concluded its critically acclaimed second season. Other titles in the genre include Foundation, Silo, For All Mankind, Dark Matter, and Invasion.
Murderbot will consist of 10 episodes, with the first two releasing on Apple TV+ on Friday, May 16, 2025. New episodes will premiere each Friday until July 11.
