Sony's ULT Power Sound lineup introduces three new Bluetooth speakers with powerful bass.

Sony is revitalizing its Bluetooth speaker range, announcing today that three of its portable models will be branded under the ULT Power Sound series, a designation introduced last year. These new speakers feature enhancements such as a refreshed design, dedicated bass-boost buttons, new LED lighting effects, and better battery performance, with prices ranging from $200 to $900 and sizes varying from compact to party speakers. Additionally, Sony has collaborated with Post Malone for the launch.

At the entry level is the Sony ULT Field 3, a $200 cylindrical speaker that can be used upright or on its side, and comes with a shoulder strap for portability. This model replaces the older Sony SRS-XE300 and is an upgrade from the ULT Field 1. It includes a single woofer, a single tweeter, and two passive bass radiators on either side. Sony emphasizes the emphasis on low-end sound with the Field 3, which incorporates a bass boost button, dubbed ULT1, “for deeper, lower frequency bass,” according to the company.

Sony claims that the ULT Field 3 “delivers power without sacrificing clarity.” Along with the ULT1 bass boost, users can adjust the sound to their preference using a 7-band EQ and can link multiple speakers together for amplified sound, including stereo pairing. The Field 3 boasts a battery life of up to 24 hours on a full charge, which decreases slightly when the bass boost is used, and has an IP67 certification. This new speaker will surely compete with the recently launched JBL Flip 7.

Next, Sony introduced the ULT Field 5, a larger and more powerful Bluetooth speaker priced at $330. This model resembles the Field 3 in design (it can be used upright or on its side) but features a central woofer and two tweeters. Additionally, dual passive radiators produce low frequencies from the sides, and the Field 5 includes an extra ULT2 bass-boost button that offers “powerful punchy bass.”

The Field 5 also features LED lighting that adds a party vibe and is controllable through the Sound Connect app. Additionally, it has three more adjustable EQ bands that are also managed via the app. The Field 5 promises up to 25 hours of battery life (slightly reduced with the bass boost and lighting), includes the party connect and stereo pairing functions, and is IP67 dust and water-resistant for any party scenario.

Lastly, Sony unveiled the ULT Tower 9 party speaker, the largest and loudest of the new Power Sound speakers. Replacing the Sony SRS-XV900, the Tower 9 is a battery-operated party speaker that will compete with options like the JBL PartyBox Stage 320 and Soundcore Rave 3S.

The Tower 9 boasts a large 12.6-inch woofer for powerful bass, four tweeters for clear high frequencies, and two mid-range drivers for crisp vocals and guitar sounds. Its dimensions of 16 x 35.8 x 17.9 inches and weight of 65 pounds make it quite substantial, as expected from a party speaker designed for powerful sound. The Tower 9 also features both ULT1 and ULT2 bass boost options, a 10-band EQ, and is app-compatible.

Furthermore, the ULT Tower 9 supports wireless karaoke microphones and can connect to your TV via its optical input, which activates the speaker's TV Sound Booster feature that Sony claims enhances the audio experience for TV viewing. Naturally, being a party speaker, it includes an impressive LED light show.

The $900 ULT Tower 9 offers up to 25 hours of playback on battery; however, there’s also a plug-in version, the $750 Tower 9AC model, for those looking to save some money.

The Sony ULT Field 3, Field 5, and Tower 9 speakers are now available through online retailers and Sony’s website.
