Adolescence has now become Netflix's fourth most popular English-language series.
Netflix
Adolescence has seen a remarkable rise in popularity on Netflix's charts. In less than a month, it has reached the No. 4 spot on the streaming service’s Most Popular English-Language TV list.
Since its debut on March 13, Adolescence has garnered over 114 million views in nearly four weeks, surpassing all seasons of Bridgerton, including the first season, which had 113 million viewers.
Netflix monitors viewership over a 91-day period; therefore, Adolescence still has approximately 65 days left to move into the top three. If it maintains its current pace, it is expected to surpass Dahmer: Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which has 115.6 million viewers, to claim the No. 3 spot on the all-time list.
Adolescence might also eclipse the No. 2 position held by Stranger Things season 4, which attracted 140.7 million viewers. However, it is unlikely to reach the No. 1 spot, currently held by Wednesday season 1 with 252.1 million viewers. Nevertheless, achieving such recognition with a four-episode series covering a difficult subject is a significant feat.
In the series, 13-year-old Jamie Miller (Owen Cooper) faces arrest for the murder of a teenage girl named Katie Leonard (Emilia Holliday). Stephen Graham, who co-created the show with Jack Thorne, portrays Jamie’s father, Eddie. Adolescence delves into the events surrounding the tragic incident, Jamie's history with bullying, and the effects of the case on Eddie and his family.
The cast also includes Ashley Walters, Erin Doherty, Faye Marsay, Christine Tremarco, Mark Stanley, Jo Hartley, and newcomer Amélie Pease. Each of the four episodes is filmed in a single continuous shot.
The series has received critical praise and is a strong contender for the 2025 Emmys.
All four episodes of Adolescence can be streamed on Netflix.
