NYT Connections: clues and solutions for Tuesday, April 8.
Connections is one of the top puzzle games from the New York Times. The objective of the game is to categorize a set of 16 words into four hidden (for now) groups by determining how the words are related. The puzzle resets nightly at midnight, and each puzzle varies in difficulty. Similar to Wordle, you can track your winning streak and compare your scores with friends.
Some days present more of a challenge than others, akin to other popular NYT Games such as The Mini and Strands. If you're facing difficulties with today's puzzle, take a look at our Connections tips and tricks guide for useful strategies, or see the hints for today’s Connections puzzle listed below. If you're still stuck, we will provide today’s answers at the end.
**How to play Connections**
Connections is a daily game focused on identifying common links between words. Players need to select four groups of four words while making no more than three mistakes. Play now. [link]
You can access Connections on the New York Times website or through the NYT Games app available for both iOS and Android.
In Connections, you will see a grid with 16 words — your task is to organize these words into four groups of four by identifying the connections that unite them. These groups could represent ideas like video game franchise titles, sequel book series, shades of red, names of chain restaurants, etc.
Some words may appear to fit several themes, but there is only one completely correct answer. You can shuffle the grid of words and rearrange them to help visualize potential connections better.
Each group is identified by color: the easiest group to identify is yellow, followed by green, blue, and purple groups.
Select four words and click Submit. If you are correct, those four words will disappear from the grid, and the theme connecting them will be displayed. An incorrect guess will count as a mistake. You can make only four mistakes before the game concludes.

**Who edits the NYT Connections game?**
Wyna Liu, who has been editing puzzles at The New York Times since 2020, oversees Connections daily.
“A few months ago, I was assigned the task to create the game boards for Connections, a category matching game that had recently been approved and was looking for an editor,” Liu explained in an article discussing her process in June 2024. Most of my experience has been with crosswords, and I was thrilled to try something new. I’ve enjoyed understanding how puzzle editing unfolds after a game is approved, and observing how our team fits into a broader ecosystem.”
On the one-year anniversary of Connections’ launch earlier this year, Liu shared this TikTok about her favorite puzzles thus far.
