Spider-Man: Brand New Day: all the details we have on the MCU film up to this point
2026 is set to be a significant year for cinema, partly due to the launch of Marvel and Sony’s Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This will be actor Tom Holland’s fourth solo outing as everyone’s Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and the film is anticipated to be a major cinematic highlight, especially following the tremendous success of his previous film, Spider-Man: No Way Home.
With the film’s title now disclosed, there has been considerable speculation regarding what audiences can expect from this new installment in Spider-Man’s journey, fueled by so-called leaks and comic book lore. There is a blend of confirmed details and rumors surrounding this high-budget film, so here’s a breakdown of what is known and what remains uncertain about Spider-Man: Brand New Day thus far.
When is Spider-Man: Brand New Day scheduled for release?
Sony / Sony
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to debut on July 31, 2026. This release date comes approximately three months after Avengers: Doomsday premieres. This timeline could amplify excitement for Spider-Man’s upcoming adventure, particularly based on the outcome of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes as they confront Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom for the first time.
What is the plot of Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
Sony / Sony
The plot details of Marvel’s next Spider-Man film are currently under wraps. However, the film’s title suggests a connection to the comic book storyline of the same name. The “Brand New Day” arc follows Peter Parker as he erases the world’s memory of his secret identity, resulting in the end of his relationship with MJ, similar to the events depicted in No Way Home.
It remains unclear whether the film’s events will take place before, after, or simultaneously with Avengers: Doomsday.
Who will be in the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
Sony / Sony
Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
Zendaya as Michelle Jones-Watson (“MJ”)
Sadie Sink
Currently, the roster of confirmed characters and actors is minimal, but Holland mentioned during a video presentation at CinemaCon 2025 that Spider-Man: Brand New Day will be a “fresh start” for the franchise. This suggests that, apart from MJ, the film will introduce a completely new set of characters within Peter Parker’s universe. The extent of Zendaya’s character’s involvement in the film is uncertain, and it seems rushed for the sequel to reverse Doctor Strange’s memory wipe and immediately reunite her with Peter.
Given the possibility that Peter might discover new love interests, fans are speculating about the role that Stranger Things star Sadie Sink will play in Brand New Day. According to industry insider Daniel Richtman, Sink’s character is said to be “a sharp and free-spirited woman with a mysterious past. Strong-willed, intelligent, and not easily intimidated.”
Since Sink’s casting announcement, theories regarding her character have varied widely, ranging from the X-Men’s Jean Grey to the cat burglar Felicia Hardy/Black Cat, to even a new interpretation of Mary Jane Watson. It has also been suggested that Sink could portray Lily Hollister/Menace, a key antagonist in the “Brand New Day” storyline.
Additionally, there are rumors about a female villain being part of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with casting calls indicating a search for an actress aged 30s-50s of any ethnicity for a “powerful and imposing figure” with a strong and commanding on-screen presence.
Other casting notices have reportedly been looking for a “resourceful young man in his early 20s” and another man in their 30s to 50s to play “a pragmatic authority figure who views the world in black and white. Loyal, determined, and ready to cross boundaries to impose order.”
Who will be the antagonist in Spider-Man: Brand New Day?
Sony / Sony
As details regarding the film’s cast continue to emerge, it remains uncertain who Spider-Man will confront in his fourth solo film. Nevertheless, the comic that shares the movie's name features Martin Li/Mister Negative as one of its villains.
In the comics, Mister Negative is the head of the F.E.A.S.T. organization (where Aunt May worked in Spider-Man: Far From Home) and is also a powerful crime lord of the Inner Demons, who corrupts and brainwashes others to do his bidding. Mister Negative gained significant popularity following his appearance in the acclaimed 2018 video game Marvel’s Spider-Man for the Playstation 4. This intriguing and formidable villain may finally receive the cinematic representation he deserves.
Though a confrontation between Spider-Man and Tom Hardy’s Venom seemed imminent after No Way Home, Hardy confirmed in an interview with AP Entertainment that his version of Eddie Brock will not face Spider-Man. However, with Marvel films, nothing is definitive.
Additionally, there is the issue of the Venom symbiote left behind in the mid-credits scene of No Way
