Three PBS programs to check out in March 2025.
PBS might not have an array of original programming like Netflix and other streaming services, but it has served as America’s portal to British dramas for many years. It’s true that some of these shows may also appear on streaming platforms. The main distinction is that PBS provides these shows for free, and you can stream them online even if you don't wish to contribute to your local station.
This month’s selections include two returning British dramas, one of which experienced almost a decade-long gap between seasons. The other is a returning murder mystery from Sweden, illustrating the widespread appeal of that genre.
There’s still ample opportunity to explore the new PBS shows available in March. Additionally, you can revisit the excellent PBS series from February as well. For now, here are our top three PBS recommendations for February.
After you finish here, take a look at the best new movies to stream this week, as well as standout shows on Netflix, Hulu, Max, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney+.
**Wolf Hall: The Mirror and The Light**
PBS
It's been ten years since the first season of *Wolf Hall* concluded with the tragic fate of Anne Boleyn (Claire Foy), orchestrated by her husband, King Henry VIII (Damian Lewis). The royal court of 16th century England was notoriously harsh. *Wolf Hall: The Mirror and The Light* continues from where season 1 ended, focusing on Thomas Cromwell (Mark Rylance), King Henry VIII's chief minister, as he seeks to maintain his influence and secure a suitable wife for the king.
Regrettably, Henry is infamous for his brutality and propensity to order executions against anyone who opposes his desires. If Cromwell doesn’t tread carefully, he might find himself facing the same fate. Before that, however, he strives to establish an alliance between England and Cleves. While Cromwell wields significant political clout, his own life is at stake if he ever disappoints his monarch.
Tune into *Wolf Hall: The Mirror and The Light* on PBS on March 23.
**Murder in Sweden Season 4**
PBS
If you’re not fluent in Swedish, there’s no need for concern. *Murder in Sweden* features English subtitles rather than an awkwardly dubbed English version of the Swedish dialogue. Maria Wern (Eva Röse) serves as the Deputy Crime Commissioner on a picturesque Swedish island, where she has built a good life for herself and her family. However, the countryside is often marred by serious crimes, compelling Maria and her team to confront the darker aspects of people who could have easily been their friends and neighbors.
Catch *Murder in Sweden* on PBS.
**Call the Midwife Season 14**
BBC
*Call the Midwife* has been around long enough that a series originally set in the '50s now firmly takes place in 1970 with the arrival of season 14. The midwives at Nonnatus House serve impoverished families in need of their help. In the season premiere, a woman’s seemingly miraculous conception raises significant concerns for the experienced nuns, Sister Julienne (Jenny Aggutter) and Sister Monica Joan (Judy Parfitt).
As always, Nonnatus House is confronted with various social issues of the time, but Nurses Trixie Aylward (Helen George) and Rosalind Clifford (Natalie Quarry) face particularly daunting challenges. Trixie must assist a soon-to-be mother just released from psychiatric care, while Rosalind helps bring a child into the world who has "a suspicious spinal lesion."
Watch *Call the Midwife* on PBS on March 30.
