If you’ve noticed that your Google Pixel 9 is charging to full capacity more quickly than you'd prefer, you're not the only one. Users have reported issues related to their devices’ charging limits following the March update that was released over the weekend.

As reported by Android Authority, Pixel users have expressed concerns about their phones reaching 100% charge faster than normal, even after setting the charging limit to 80%. Some users on Reddit mentioned that their phones charged to 100% a few times immediately after the update, but then returned to charging up to 80% after disabling and re-enabling the limit. A user, u/asteria99, suggested that these rapid charging instances might be a result of recalibration.

"This is likely intentional. It will occasionally charge to 100% to make sure the software’s battery reading is aligned with the battery’s actual status," they stated. "For this update, Google probably enforced this during the initial charge. Following the first full charge, it should operate normally."

A product expert in the Google support forums confirmed that the recalibration process is a feature rather than a bug, responding to another Pixel user experiencing the same issue. They noted that for the phone to complete the recalibration, it must remain connected to the charger until the shield icon appears over the battery symbol in the status bar, which will persist for two hours after the device is fully charged. Subsequent charges will again be limited to 80%. However, the shield icon will not appear if you are using a wireless charger. In that case, the phone must stay on the wireless charging platform until the lightning bolt icon disappears.

The charging limit issue is not exclusive to the Google Pixel 9, as it has also affected the Google Pixel 8 Pro and Google Pixel 9 Pro, along with other Pixel devices that can update to the latest software. This same update introduced AI-based scam detection, enhancements to satellite messaging, personalization in Pixel Mode, and more.

I love the Clicks iPhone keyboard, and it’s now coming to Android

Do you recall the days of BlackBerry? The precision in our typing, the myriad of keyboard shortcuts, and the gratifying haptic response from pressing a button and seeing text appear on the screen? In January, a new startup from London—boasting some well-known personnel—unveiled a new accessory for the iPhone that reintroduced physical buttons.

How good is the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s new ultra-wide camera? I tested it to find out

Samsung has focused on evolving its camera technology in its Ultra line, introducing small enhancements with each new model. Last year’s Galaxy S24 Ultra featured a 50MP sensor with 5x optical zoom in its secondary telephoto lens. With higher resolution and increased pixel count due to pixel binning, the zoom quality improved compared to the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s 10x zoom, despite having a shorter optical zoom length. The Galaxy S25 Ultra also showcases the 200MP main camera that debuted in the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
