      James Gunn has always felt that Jason Momoa was destined to portray Lobo. After nearly ten years in the role of Aquaman, Momoa will now have the opportunity to play the cigar-smoking antihero in Gunn’s DC Universe, starting with an appearance in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Gunn shared on X a text conversation from October 2022 with Momoa, shortly after he was announced as co-CEO of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran. Momoa texted, “F****** Lobo,” and Gunn responded, “Dude, I’ve been saying for years that you should be Lobo. No lie.” He included the texts along with a photo of Lobo.

      “On the anniversary of Lobo, I can’t help but recall a text I got from Jason Momoa on the morning it was announced that Peter and I would lead DC Studios — the day we first talked about him joining the DCU as Lobo,” Gunn wrote. “Seeing Jason bring him to life has been a joy, and I can't wait to share that with all of you.”
