      TCL

Although TCL's primary focus at CES this year was on the QM6K, which we recently reviewed, the QM7K still made an appearance in a private press suite and on the show floor. We were so impressed with it that we awarded it the Digital Trends Top Tech of CES 2025 accolade. Thus, it’s no surprise that the TCL QM7K has been officially announced. What is somewhat surprising is that it is already available at retailers nationwide and on tcl.com. Additionally, those who purchase one can receive a $500 Visa gift card for a limited time post-purchase.

What can we anticipate from the TCL QM7K? As with every year, the 7 series is expected to enhance the features of the 6 series. Both televisions incorporate TCL’s new Halo Control System, which boasts significant upgrades to its backlight system, including a new LED chip, a condensed micro lens, a 23-bit backlight controller, and a reduced optical distance to minimize haloing.

Other features it shares with the QM6K include a redesigned backlit remote, Filmmaker mode, hands-free far-field voice control, a 144Hz native refresh panel, IMAX Enhanced and AMD FreeSync certifications, and Game Accelerator with VRR support up to 288Hz. However, the QM7K will offer more dimming zones (up to 2,800), increased brightness (up to 3,000 nits), and a new art mode along with an art gallery.

One of the criticisms of the QM6K was its Onkyo-branded audio, which was found lacking and didn’t present clear treble, making dialogue difficult to understand. In contrast, the QM7K will feature “new premium audio by Bang & Olufsen, [which] enhances the picture with significantly more accurate home theater sound,” according to Scott Ramirez, VP of Product Marketing and Development, Home Theater. We will ensure it undergoes rigorous testing upon its arrival in our lab.

The TCL QM7K is now available, with the following sizes and prices:

      - 55-inch for $1,300

      - 65-inch for $1,500

      - 75-inch for $2,000

      - 85-inch for $2,500

      - 98-inch for $4,000 (coming soon)

      - 115-inch for $20,000 (coming soon)

TCL QM8 Mini-LED TV hands-on impressions: I was taken aback

I’m not sure you’re prepared for the TCL QM8 TV. I certainly wasn’t, and it’s a discussion we need to have.

Many were anticipating positive outcomes from the TCL QM8. Based on some messages I've received, there is significant interest in this TV, likely due to promising previews from CES. However, TCL is also revamping its model numbering scheme and slightly restructuring its TV lineup, which may lead to questions about whether the QM8 will be groundbreaking or merely another version of what was previously called the 6-Series.

Is 8K TV declining? CES 2023 does not bode well

CES serves not just as a showcase for the latest technology—it also acts as a gauge. It becomes apparent when certain developments gain popularity as more companies join in, while a decline is observable when fewer products and services promote a particular tech.

At CES 2023, the significant drop in new 8K products raises concerns about the future of this format.

      Only two TV companies

Scott Ramirez, vice president of product marketing and development for TCL home theater, remarked at CES 2023. The company remained tight-lipped about any new 8K sets at this year's event.

      TCL’s 8K 6-Series mini-LED TVs offer surprising affordability

TCL has kept us in suspense for months regarding the pricing of its 8K resolution 6-Series mini-LED QLED TVs. Now, we finally have the information, and it was worth the wait. The 75-inch model is priced at $3,000, while the smaller 65-inch version costs $2,200. Both models are on sale today with limited availability at major retailers.

For perspective, LG and Samsung—the only other manufacturers with mini-LED-based 8K TVs in 2021—charge $3,500 for their most affordable 65-inch models and $4,800 for their 75-inch models.
