NYT Connections: clues and solutions for Saturday, March 8
Connections is among the top puzzle games offered by the New York Times. The objective of the game is to categorize a selection of 16 words into four undisclosed groups by determining their relationships. Each puzzle resets nightly at midnight, with varying levels of difficulty for each new challenge. Similar to Wordle, users can track their winning streaks and compare scores with friends.
Some days present more challenges than others, much like other NYT Games favorites such as The Mini and Strands. If you’re struggling with today’s puzzle, check out our guide to Connections tips and tricks for useful strategies or find hints for today’s Connections puzzle below. If you're still unable to solve it, we will provide today’s answers at the end.

Connections can be played on the New York Times website or via the NYT Games app for iOS or Android.
In Connections, you will see a grid with 16 words—your goal is to sort these words into four groups of four by identifying the connections among them. These groups might include categories such as titles of video game series, sequels of book series, shades of red, names of restaurant chains, and more.
You may come across words that seem to fit multiple categories, but there is only one correct answer per game. You have the option to shuffle the grid of words and rearrange them to better identify potential connections.
Each group is color-coded, starting with the yellow group, which is the easiest, followed by green, blue, and purple groups.
Select four words and press Submit. If you’re accurate, those four words will be removed from the grid, and the theme linking them will be unveiled. A wrong guess counts as a mistake, with only four mistakes allowed before the game concludes.

Who oversees the NYT Connections game?
Wyna Liu, who has been editing puzzles at The New York Times since 2020, manages Connections on a daily basis.
“A few months ago, a new assignment came my way: Create the game boards for Connections, a matching game that had recently received approval and was in search of an editor,” Liu mentioned in an article discussing her editing process in June 2024. Most of my puzzle experience has been with crosswords, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to try something new. I have enjoyed understanding how puzzle editing operates once a game is approved, and seeing how our team fits into a broader ecosystem.”
On the one-year anniversary of Connections’ launch earlier this year, Liu shared this TikTok about her favorite puzzles so far:
